What size spacers and trowel notches?

Gcol, thanks for your help. I have the sticky printed out now! The mosaic are approx the same thickness as the wall tile. I'll go with 4mm spacers all over and get myself a couple of decent trowels. Just bought the recommended marshalltown grout float for £7.81 + VAT.

    Cement based backer boards

My local merchant stocks Marley Eternit Hydropanel, howeer I have not heard this mentioned on here. Is there really any difference between the brands? Also, they stock it at 9mm thickness, however I was under the impression most wall-based cement boards are 12.5mm. Is the thickness...

    Marley Eternit Hydropanel

My local merchant stocks this, as opposed to other brands of cement based tile backer boards. Is there really any difference between the brands? Also, they stock it at 9mm thickness, however I was under the impression most wall-based cement boards are 12mm. Is the 3mm difference significant...

    Tanking, aqua panel & skimming.

Richard I was being my normal pessimistic self in thinking that water vapour could somehow get into the roofspace above the bathroom. Taking a more pragmatic view, this is highly unlikely unless the ceiling itself had absorbed sufficient moisture to degrade it such that significant moisture...

    Tanking, aqua panel & skimming.

Richard, thank you for the reply The ceiling does fall quite low so putting a false ceiling in below this would lower the ceilnig too much for us. I will certainly look at a false cailing under part of the taller area of the room. I was thinking vapour check to help reduce the likelihood of...

Major bathroom re-furb - materials advice sought

Good photos, I've loads of the rest of the house refurb. I have a few photos of the boathroom but the room is so small I cannot get far enough away from one wall to get everything on one shot. Plumbing will simply be a tidy and re-route of supply pipes (to conceal them) plus replacement of...

    Tanking, aqua panel & skimming.

Just the post I was looking for! I'd posted the info below in the "my projects section" The essence being to work out what kind of board I needed where. In summary: What kind of battens are recommended for boarding out a bathroom? Would moisture check be recommended for ceiling too, or...

What size spacers and trowel notches?

Aye thank you! I've got a cheap mixing paddle but it's a bit worse for wear so a new one is needed. So, a 10mm notched trowel for large wall tiles (and floor?), plus a 3mm one for the mosaic? Am I right in thinking that 4mm spacers will also suffice for the floor tiles? I'll check out...

What size spacers and trowel notches?

I've bought tiles for the bathroom walls, size 16 x 10" x 8mm thick and plan to fit them in a brick bond style with a mosaic border. What size spacers would be recommended for this size of tile? Also what size of notch would be best for a trowel (and should this differ for the mosaic border?)...

What to choose for starting height?

Good afternoon I am in the process of planning out my total bathroom renovation and am trying to have everything covered off before I start. I intend to tile the whole room which has 1 window and I will be fitting a shower tray and enclosure. I do not wish to be left with thin slivers...

    Help with grouting mosaic tiles

Just to pick up on gcol's comment - would you measure up and "split the difference" to prevent the pattern being offset, i.e. would you centre it up on the particular wall during setting out?

Major bathroom re-furb - materials advice sought

Good morning We are hastily planning out what to do with our bathroom and have settled on the decision to totally replace everything (suite, walls, floor ceiling the whole lot!) Whilst I try to plan the best order out to do everything (we only have this one bathroom in the house  ) I...

    Thought chimney stack was collapsing....

Last night, just getting out of shower, missus shouts "there's rubble falling down the chimney" (chimney in question is in front room with open fire). I pop down and sure enouigh there is bits of mortar falling down it. Go upstairs and can hear stuff falling in the chimney from the front...

The fastest tiler in the west????

I've no experience (yet) with tiling but that looked pretty shoddy, the tiles were not "twisted" and pressed onto the adhesive - they were just placed on and spacers pushed in.
