What to use to drill hole in wall for soil pipe and how?

Hi, As part of my ongoing ensuite project, I need to drill a hole through my wall for the new 110mm soil branch and shower/sink waste. I guess I need some kind of core drill but not sure of the type or the size I should use. Ideally something not too expensive as I will only need it the...

Diameter of feed to unvented cylinder or thermal store

:( Hopefully there will be access panels in the floor from when they installed it! I guess the impact from using 15mm instead of 22mm will be reduced flow rate so a longer time to re-heat the cylinder?

Diameter of feed to unvented cylinder or thermal store

Hi, My heating system is a sealed system, with two valves for heating and hot water respectively, both these pipes are 22mm when they go into the house under the floor (boilers in the garage) The pipes that come up through the floor in the airing cupboard to the cylinder are 15mm. Not...

Recommendation for Sliding Mirror Wardrobe Doors

I bought Stanley doors several years back, first time I had ever installed mirrored doors and found them very easy to install. My mistake was buying them from B&Q! They sent a box full of random crap instead of the ceiling rail and it took me a month of hassling and complaining to get...

    Disposing of Plasterboard

Does this apply to Scotland as well? When I read this a few weeks back I was concerned I might have more hassle disposing of the plasterboards from the partition wall I just pulled down. I asked at the recyling centre and the guy there didn't know (or care!) and said just chuck it in...

Newel for kite winder extends to ceiling, can i trim it down

Unfortunatly I'm not part of a development (normally a good thing!) so I have nothing to compare to. it looks like the string is housed into it and i can see light marks on the glosswork which look like filled screw heads. Cheers for the advice, might leave it until i have the handrail in...

Newel for kite winder extends to ceiling, can i trim it down

Hi, As mentioned in other posts I'm renovating the balustrading on my stairs, I have closed sting stairs with a kite winder at the bottom. The newell is a single piece about 6cm x 10cm which extends right up to the ceiling, where it is notched and then fixed to the roof joist. I know...

    Door liner question?

Hi, I've seen door liner kits in B&Q and was thinking that might be easier for me to use when creating a partition wall, one question I have is: Say I build a stud wall with 38mm x 63mm timber and two sheets of 12.5mm plasterboard (no skim). The smallest kit I've seen is 108mm thick...

    Stair where banister/balustrade meets ceiling

I also have a wall, which i'm removing and replacing with a handrail. My current stairs do not have that board you are refering to, I wasn't planning on fitting that either, just leaving it plastered, unless i really make a mess taking the wall down, in which case either I'll re-plaster or...

    Stair where banister/balustrade meets ceiling

Hi, My stairs currently have old style horizontal panels for the banister, at the top is just a wall. I plan to install handrail spindles, remove part of the wall at the top and install a handrail there. My handrail can't go right to the top as it would partially merge with the...

    Soundproof new partition wall

Cheers for all the help, that last link was very usefull. spoke with the LABC and said what I was doing (ensuite, with WC and some electrics) and I don't need to notify them, just make sure I do them to standard. I didn't bother quizzing him about the specifics of the wall construction.

extractor and shaver socket in bathroom.

Do you mean that i would need to replace these with a newer style consumer unit with rcd, or just that i definitely need to include an RCD on the spur serving my new bathroom electrics? I shall check my multimeter and see if it's up to the job, thanks.
