Problem with Stove Install - Hetas needed

Thanks Ian - I didn't realise that was the case, and thought maybe it was just from handling coal in the room but wasn't sure. Would've thought the alarm would trip if that was the case? (It was a new alarm btw).

Problem with Stove Install - Hetas needed

I've had a Stovax Stockton stove for 4 years now, but it's done probably less than 120 fires in ttotal as it's always gave off fumes (feel dizzy etc) and has been like this from new. I assumed it was the 'break in' period or possibly burning off residues from previous fuels but we've obviously...

Yeah, that's what I figured (re. dotdab) - thanks Roughcaster!

Wall repair - plasterboard onto lathe?

Had a radiator fall off the wall - it was on lathe/plaster that's become boss. I'm planning to remove the section of plaster and put plasterboard on. Is it possible to dot & dab plasterboard on to lathe?

Leak behind boiler pump (Baxi 80e)

Thanks 45years - it's definitely just there and possibly a little from the lower screw but I see the o-rings come as a pair, so that should hopefully sort it :)

Leak behind boiler pump (Baxi 80e)

Got a slight drip coming from the black plastic section to the rear of the pump on my Baxi 80e (have attached a pic with highlight of drip). I'd tried tightening the screws for the plastic housing but it's not sorted it. I'm presuming there might be a gasket for this that needs replaced? If...

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

Thanks all, will mull it over for a few days.

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

Thanks Chain Daisy, you've been very helpful :) Not sure what the 'to-do' was in the earlier post (must've been removed) - there's no confusion, just a decision to be made over to go wired or not. Relating the spikes, it was something I'd read on another forum and wasn't to do with...

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

RF - that wasn't directed at anyone here, was just what someone else mentioned on another forum. I realise no-one has any reason for bias, so the wireless must've come along way for the pro's to consider recommending them! Thanks for further info John...hmm, it's a tricky one. Wired is...

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

Thanks both for the info - I was originally thinking wired but the Yale wireless kit does look good and is a good price. Like the fact there's 2 bellboxes, but it it's lacking door contacts, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure about the wire vs wireless debate, some are saying take it with a pinch of...

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

Hi chain daisy, there's an attic conversion - the lights are connected to 2 properly mounted switches in the eaves/crawlspace. I had actually mentioned the issue to my father in law who reckoned there'll be control switches externally on the lights, so going to check that out when I get access...

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

Festive tidings and a somewhat late thanks! I'd forgotten all about this but it's back on the agenda. A spark will add the spur, but I'll hook up the rest. Again, not too bothered about window contacts, but will maybe get a system that allows for it in future. Don't require police monitoring...

    3 Phase & Converter question

I've yet to confirm power usage but it's a more modern compact machine, runs 60hz/25A.

    3 Phase & Converter question

Yeah, I'm binning the idea for this particular machine, it's not worth the bother/expense. Should I want to, I can get an equivalent machine that's single phase, it's a couple of K dearer but will be cheaper in the long run!

    3 Phase & Converter question

Tropical, could use the heat here in Glasgow

    3 Phase & Converter question

Thanks John/Sparky - it's more of an outbuilding than garage though! The current owner of the machine said he had run it off a £2.5k phase converter but even at that, it's not really an option unfortunately.

    3 Phase & Converter question

Was just looking at main fuse box and coming off the main cable there's a black box labelled 415v/100a (attached). Could we have 3phase here already?

    3 Phase & Converter question

Thanks for the replies - it is indeed 18kW, no mistake! It's a piece of printing equipment but uses heat in addition to motors. As mentioned, the garage is a fair distance from the street so I think it'd be prohibitively expensive. The garage does back onto a lane but I'm guessing there...

    3 Phase & Converter question

I'm looking to get a 3 phase machine into my residential garage - problem is the garage is about 30ft from the street. The machine's power requirements state "400 V 3P+N+T, 50/60Hz, 18 kW" and I'm just looking into whether a phase converter will be possible. Any reasonably priced converters...
