    Loft lights.

I like the idea of a switch, but don’t want the light left on by mistake, hence why I’m going for a plug and extension lead. I haven’t looked at the lights yet, I bought them and put them straight in the loft out the way, that is a good point though about the glands, they are IP65 so I suspect...

    Loft lights.

Hi, I’m fitting 2 LED batten lights in my loft. My plan is to have 1 cable coming from a power supply (plug) in to a junction box then 2 cables out, 1 to each light. I have plenty of cable, 1mm 3 core flex and 1mm twin + earth. I’m inclined more to use the twin + earth because I already have a...

    choice of downlighters (ed.)

Hi, I have a few questions about down lights. I’d be interested to hear from DIYers and professionals. 1) My toilet is less the 1m x 2m, how many lights do I need? There is currently 1 light fitted with a energy saving bulb with is great, it hangs off the ceiling giving great light coverage...

    Old boiler cables.

Yeah, I thought that something was wrong. When I turned the boiler switch off, I expected the timer to go off. There is wires going to the timer, but none coming from the timer, there is wires hanging from the ceiling.

    Old boiler cables.

That would involve another question about how to tell if the wires are good enough. I’m more then capable of reading a wire and asking the question, it’s just not worth it it for a plug socket in a cupboard that won’t get much use.

    Old boiler cables.

That sounds like a quick easy fix, that won’t leave an unsightly mess. I’m assuming the wires inside the back box is safe enough to be left in a chock block and taped up?

    Old boiler cables.

Hi, A few years ago we had a new central heating system fitted, old hot water tank taken out and replaced with a new combi boiler in a different location. The installers left all the wiring just hanging about and the timer connected. At the time I turned the switch off on the fuse board, put...

    New Door Handle.

Hi, I have a Upvc front door, it was fitted when we moved in. The outside handle is a stubby handle, you can pull it up to o’clock the door but you can’t open the door from the outside, which is great. The other half wanted a new letter box and picked a silver one, which mean we now have to...

    Noisy hot water pipe

hi, When using the hot water in my house, there is a noise when you turn the tap off. It sounds like something tapping the pipe, it only happens for a second or so but it is getting louder. I've had some work done in the bathroom in the summer, could this be connected? The water pipes run...

Is it safe to board this loft?

Put the heavy stuff over a supporting wall. I have 1 wall that goes from the floor right up and the ceiling joists sit on it. I don't have anything heavy in there but everything is around that wall area.

Is it safe to board this loft?

I don't know about them loft stilt things but I have seen them in the shop and look quite expensive. When I done my loft, I screwed 2x2 to the joists and worked off that. I had just changed my upstairs ceiling so I had no insulation to mess about with while doing it. I screwed the 2x2 to the...

    10mm shower cable

Thanks for all the replies and confusion. The other half picked the shower, the 9.5kw shower was on sale and cheaper then the 8.5kw shower. We ended up getting the 9.5kw shower instead. In terms of using the shower, will that extra KW even be noticeable?

    Lino

hi, How do I go about putting Lino down? It is a wooden floor and I will be putting hard board over the floor boards. Do I stick the Lino down or just lay it down over the hard board and leave it? It's going in a bathroom if that makes any difference? Thanks
