    Leaking close coupled pan

Thanks for that...maybe the cistern is being pushed forward from the wall, so will try wedging it upright a bit next time. The grommet only has one way as far as I can see, but will double check it. Damned well sealed pan down now and can see that I will have to cut it and re-try :?

    Leaking close coupled pan

Just spent a couple of hours trying to stop the newly installed close coupled pan from leaking. It is leaking where the cistern fits on the top of the pan. I have tried tightening and untightening the connecting bolts thru the cistern into the pan, to no avail. Seems now that the actual...

    some advice please

I'm in the same position there hun, so can appreciate your predicament. There are just so many courses that its hard to choose which one will bring in the work. I started the course just wanting to upgrade my own house (as I did when I took my NVQ2 in plumbing  ) but am now hooked. I am...

    Insall oven into oven housing

I have just taken my oven out of its housing and it was held in place by four rather small screws that went in from inside the door rebate. Look along the seal and you may find a few holes there. Mine was a big double oven held in by 4 1/4 inch screws

    Installing Electric Shower

I was told not to upgrade my 6mm to 10mm for my existing 7kw shower as I didnt know when I would be replacing it....it would leave the cabling too big for the installation. This would have been ok if the mcb was still 32 though surely??? because its the fusing rating that should be the first to...

    Qualifications Needed

I think you will find that the 2330 leaves it a lot to the tutors because I do a lot of practicals in the workshop and have my days in the bays in 'lifelike' scenarios. I am doing my resit for my main practical assignment in two weeks as I failed due to (I have to admit) sloppy work...but find...

Problem with wiring arrangement for new bathroom light

I'm sure someone will correct me IMMEDIATELY if I am wrong, but the only one u need to keep an eye on is the one with the brown sleeving as this is your switch line. There is a mixture of new and old coloured wiring with blue/black and brown/red being the same. It also looks as though two of...

    Extractor Fan

I saw something like this in a small bathroom showroom in Strood, Kent (can't for the life of me remember what the shop's called!) but it also came in chrome, satin and brass. It looked pretty swish and I seem to remember that it was also quite pricey...so in answer to your question as to others...

    Downlights ?

4m cable?? I think you mean 4mm and even that is enough rating for a cooker!!! Did the lights come with a transformer and the dimmer switch together? I believe (though am not qualified to make a statement) that you need a different dimmer switch for low voltage (with a transformer) lighting...

    Kitchen rewire quote- too much?

Chasing is where he cuts a channel in the wall to run cabling or conduit (or both) up to the relevent outlets. Sockets attached to surface mounted trunking looks naff in anywhere other than a commercial building. Chasing will allow you to plaster or tile over the top for a neater, cleaner...

    Cheap cabling

I just had a look at the 6mm cos replacing shower and cooker runs and that was priced up at 89p p/m. I went to my local electrical shop and they offered it at £1...now I know I dont get much of a discount with them yet as I havent built up the same rapport I have with my plumbing merchants, but...

    Maths assessment on course?

The only comment I can make to you about the level of maths required is that the older ('O' level takers) in the group are not having the same amount of trouble covering the course as those younger with GCSE's. I do have one of those under my belt that I took in just 12 hours of study and...
