    Fired Earth paint

I agree with CRJ, I would say its on par with farrow and ball. I cant think of her name, but I think her surname is something like 'toppin' she's loved up with a footballer, Sol cambell rings a bell, it could be sally topping or something like that. I have used fired earth paints, and you...

    painting radiators

Dont even go there with the radiator paint, its awful stuff, the smell will fade, and your rads will look much better than using the rad paint.

    Preparing new plaster

I dont think you would need to Sugar Soap, just give the walls a light rub down to get rid of any nibs, then get a soft hand brush and sweep down. Then apply your miscoat. When you have done your miscoat, turn on the artificial light, and then you will see anu imperfections, ie, gouges...

    Stairwell Painting

You can buy an angle brush from any dec centre, the bristles are nylon, but it will do the cutting in okay. Its made to go on the end of your pole, so really its a matter of trying to to angle your pole, but it does work, but be patient, it worth it, and beats taking your life in your hands...

    which lining paper?

It depends how bad your walls are, but I have used the 800, 1000 1200 and 1400, never got round to using the 1700 as yet. Me personally, I love the 1200 and 1400 paper, I just love the finish result when its painted. A neighbour of mine said they hated lining paper, as it looks like paper...

    Green coating under old wallpaper

If your going to put a new baby in the room, try and use waterbased undercoat/gloss/eggshell, and not the oilbased. The oilbase paint fumes is harmful to new babies, and not just new either. :( If the baby is not going in there for a month, or a couple of months, then oilbase is okay...

How to treat the walls after stripping the wallpaper off?

Diluted PVA is excellent for chalky, flaky paint, it stops it from flaking. As to your water stain, whack some oilbased undercoat on the stain, let it dry, then carry on with your emulsioning.

    A slight mix up?

Lol, the other version of this joke is.... A woman goes to see her gynecologist, and as he is examining her, he ask, 'have you ever had a check up there before'? 'No' she replied, 'I'v had a swede, pole, and a few hungarians'

    pro bono?

I havent actually done any work for free as such, but if they are elderly, I do go beyond the call of duty. If I am decorating thier kitchen, I will end up cleaning thier tiles, kitchen cupboards, wash the floor, as they cant get round to doing it. I have cleaned thier windows, changed thier...

    Are Poles Better Builders?

If they are working legally, they are also entitled to family credit, even if thier family is back in Poland. The system stinks, I am not against anyone willing to work, but when we have or own able bodied on the dole, and there are loads who dont want to work as they would rather stay in bed...

    Are Poles Better Builders?

Thier plastering is very good, thats because in the old country (thiers) they dont get paid till the painter has finshed. Reason being......, if the painter has to make good on their plastering, ie, fill trowell marks, gouges, wipe thier shiiiite of the windows, floors, plugs etc, the painters...

skirting boards: do most people do satin? or gloss?

To me, gloss is the emulsion version of silk, its bl00dy awful, yes, it is slightly more hardwearing, and you can clean it better (so I read somewhere) , but satin, or eggshell to my mind is a lot more classier, specially if you have nice flat matt walls. Leave the gloss to the...

lining or skimming or textured wallpaper

I think what has happened is that when he did the filling, and you mentioned he kind of skimmed it, I would presume he used like a caulk blade to skim with the filler to skim over the big areas that needed the filling. When there is a lot of filler, and I dont mean the odd bit of filler here...

Emulsion over glazed walls - Method?

That was quite fashionable a good few years ago. As your not too sure if its waterbased or oilbased, I would plump for the good old Oilbased undercoat method, or a primer sealer. whack that on the walls, when dry, emulsion as normal.

    Painting radiators

Yes, thats okay, if your rad has never been painted, then undercoat it before applying gloss, however, you might want want to consider an eggshell or satinwood finish.( not as shiny/glarey) If you go for the eggshell or satin finish, then you just apply two coats of either.(oilbased). You...

New here with a question about tile paint

As it happens, I have just had the pleasure of removing paint from tiles. :x Two methods worked for me, one was boiling hot soapy water on the tiles, as it loosened the paint, but it did take time to soak in. The upside of this was that the actual paint came off in strips, but I found quite...
