    Painting over dark colours

Thanks. Would Dulux Super matt be similar to Macphersons Eclipse? I was also thinking Zinsser Bullseye 133 (water based one)

    Remove paint from lead roof

Hi All Previous owners have painted a lead porch roof with red paint. It's flaking off in some areas but stuck on in others. What best to remove all the paint from the lead? I've been reading and read mixed reports on: - soapy water and wire wool (but water will turn the lead white) - heat...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Thanks guys - I appreciate your support and help - it really gave me the confidence to go exploring. Flaunching was not flaking. There were a few very superficial hairline cracks. So, prior to today, we had absolutely covered it in Cromapol about a week ago. That had obviously not stopped the...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

In green I've put an arrow to the base of the chimney pot. Above that is some flashing. Which I have put some red lines on. It is the edge of that flashing (near the red lines) where it is dripping from. Given where it dripping from - I am guessing it is coming from: - the top of the...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Drilled a hole directly where the leak was. I have drilled a hole where the leak was. Looked up, and I can see the inside of a chimney and the inside of a chimney pot. The camera is facing directly upwards to where the leak is coming from. You can see the inside of a chimney and the chimney...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Here is a video of the inside of the ceiling. The camera goes up facing the directly in front of where the leak is (unfortunately with a joist in the way). I then do a pretty slow 360 view. I think it looks pretty dry. Note that there are no other damp spots on the ceiling.

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Forgot to possibly importantly mention. The fireplaces/chimney breast have been removed on our side of the house. The chimney's remain, I'm not sure what they are doing, but, there is no chimney breast in the house at all. It was removed approx 6 years ago, when the loft extension was done...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Managed to get the light fitting out, that was a fiddly. Thank you for the advice, and giving me the confidence to do that! Unfortunately the joists run right in front of the spot where the leak is :( so I cannot see the leak. However, at least it looks dry here. (managed to combine an old...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Yes -blue dot in first pic is roughly where we think the leak spot is. Or, we were wondering if it was coming down the actual chimney (which are capped)? I also managed to take a better photo showing the Cromapol area.

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Thanks again Andy. I gave it a shot, but was met with this. I tried to pull it out, then lever it out, but looks like it's been pushed into the plasterboard, or the fixings have been filled over. So, apologies, I was unable to take a photo from inside the downlighter hole.

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Thanks good idea. I can try, but the light fitting is a bit far from the leak (though appreciate it looks closer in the photo) Will give it a go.

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Thank you very much Woody. It is against the wall. The leak is a drip. It seems to drip with some "force" which makes me think it is dripping from a distance If that makes sense? Here's a picture of the leak. The area is similar size to a down lighter Woody - I'd be grateful for any...

Leaking Flat Roof - Help Please

Hi Please go easy on me - I am far from a competent DIY'er, I have called out experts, and this is the situation I am currently in. I've tried to provide as much detail as possible - but no doubt as a layman I am missing information. Please ask for any additional info. I would greatly...

Outdoor pendant lamp - Ip rated lamp holder?

FYI - The outdoor lamp is perforated steel. So lots of little holes. Which means, it is possible, the bulb inside could get wet.

Outdoor pendant lamp - Ip rated lamp holder?

Hi, My wife purchased a rickety looking old light to go in our porch. Our porch is open to the elements - wind and rain, if travelling in the right direction. The wiring on this lamp is atrocious and I wouldn't want to connect it up. I therefore want to renew everything. Do I need to use...
