Thanks again for yer time to reply!
I'm just following instructions
And I've been asked to bolt it as it all ready came pre drilled and is to be bolted to the top course of brick (architect) again :censored:.
I'm sure I'm right in saying it's getting a resin seal aswel which I'm sure will more...
Aye something along those lines regarding the roof trusses I'm leaving that to the joiner he's meant to be sorting that out.
There's a lot of shrugging shoulders on this one believe me I wouldn't even bother to go to this hassle if I wasn't mates with the couple who are getting the work done...
Hello guys looking for some advice on fixing a steel ring beam to the top course of brick.
Does anyone know what kind of bolts to use and which torque to tighten them to? Don't have anything on the engineers drawings.
It's a purely aesthetic ring beam non structural so just needing something...
As a (very) rough guide going on what you've described.. with new doors, block, timber, cladding, concrete skips etc id give yourself (at least) 6 to 7 thousand
That's like saying you can walk into a garage and buy a nice new shiny car...
Or you can walk around several scrap dealers get the parts together take them back with you and build the car yourself.
£3000 isn't a realistic price for a job that's been described whether he's building it by...
I wasn't talking about the curved bricks I was talking about the other example of a straight joint that was posted.
Again thanks for your time to reply given me some ideas. Until you posted that I never even knew those bricks existed so (y)(y)
Cheers for all the replys lads got in touch with the architect and he's gonna price up getting cut and bonded bricks made.
I wouldn't call that a decent example of a straight joint . Pretty confident I could do a much tidier job of running a straight joint so it wouldn't stick oot like that.
Aye Stuart it was that one I thought I was gonna have the most bother with. I've got access to a clipper so that's no an issue just never had to do it before so no wanting to make a pigs ear of it.
Cheers for the replys (apart from woody ) I never even gave making angles myself a thought to be honest .
Is it simple enough to do the epoxying I've never had to do it before.??
Aye the architects drawings are pretty vague. (y)
Looking for some ideas on building these two corners. As the customer doesn't want a birdsmouth. Am I looking at running a straight joint right up with ties in it??
Cracks similar to the ones in your pics can be caused by lintels failing thus leading to the stepped cracks in courses either side.
Although I can't see that being the cause with a lintel of that age (providing it's been fitted correctly) . It's movement of some sort you'll have to find out where.
Might be missing something but why not just chop them with the stihl saw and then make good pointing it up??
Especially if your worried about movement (y)
