    redecorating: for love or money?

I must admit I get some of my colours from my clients, if I like the colour they have chosen, I think, Mmmmm this would look nice in my lounge. The decorating programs dont inspire me at all, if I get an idea in my head of what I want, whether its colours, furniture etc, I always get round to...

    Paint Smell

Next time you do any painting, cut an onion in half, place each half in a saucer and position at either end, the onion will evaporate the smell. :D

    Treatment of tradesmen (or tradeswomen!)

The worst one for me, well not for me as such but it put in a predicement. I just happened to be working on the inside of the house for this lady, she wanted a couple rooms decorated, at the same time she had exterior painters outside, I didnt know them, they just happened to start on the...

    'Low-tac' masking tape

Dont bother with low masking tape, just get your ordinary tape, and the trick is before you actually place it on the wall, tear strips off, and place the strips on your jeans, or whatever workclothes you have on, (doesnt work too good with fishnets) ;-) Keep pulling the tape off, and...

Soft Sheen straight over silk.. Is this ok?

Thats one of the little tricks of soft sheen, if you have made a mistake and painted silk, but then realised its kraaap, and want to go matt. Then the trick is to go over the silk with soft sheen, then wait a day or so, then paint with your matt. Still sand down the old silk, and wipe...

    emulsion

If you mean something is bleeding thru the Anaglypta, then go with billyo's advice, but if you mean you have sort of missed a bit, or its not covered as well as the rest of the wall, then just dilute some of your colour and lightly sponge it on.

    order of preperation/redecrating

I think its nice that he takes pride on his work. :D Mind you, the hoovering side of things I can relate too, I'm just as bad. :D BTW, why would want to remove the old paint from the knotts?

    Cure for Mud Cracked Walls

This occurred after I tried to repaint the room after moving into the house. The original paint (i think) was vinyl silk, on sanding to remove the sheen, the paint seems to be be 'melting' and balling up under the sander. Not a good sign!! On one wall, the old paint peeled away entirely. I...

    water stain on ceiling

Lol, your on the right track with the oilbase, :D and I daresay the gloss would be okay for a small area, but its not advisable to use gloss on the whole ceiling, as you would undercoat it if you wanted to stop nicotene bleeding through for example. The UC has a matt finish, so any emulsion...

    water stain on ceiling

Gloss is too shiny for the emulsion, use the oilbase UC like Op said, and when dry you can either spot the area with your emulsion a couple times, or if the new area stands out, still spot with the emulsion, then give the ceiling another coat

    Royal Mail.......great arent they!

More postmen steal stuff than postwomen, but things are tightening up and have been for the last 18 months or so, well, in the thieving side of things anyway. When they suspect someone on the fiddle, whether its male or female  they set a trap. One of the traps is to to pick a couple...

There is nothing else but to indulge in speculation, for that I am guilty, I admit that. For days and days I didnt speak about it till tonight on here, because its all over the news and in many peoples minds You cant stop people from speculating, its part of human nature. :(
