    biasi boilers

Thought I'd read somewhere on this site that Biasi's were mainly other makes re-badged. Certainly the Halstead Eden VBX 18 is the same as the Biasa Riva O.V. 18, you can even see where they have copied the original installation instructions and just customised a few pages.

    Boiler function question

Baring a few differences in terminology (overheat thermostat vs bolier thermostat etc) you seem to have understtod what is going on. How about some details on the "other issue"? People may be able to help.

replacing a light switch with a sensor

[/url] Nice price!! I went for the simpler approach of a 150W garden floodlight used as an uplighter - works fine for poping out for wine/beer etc (when working I turn the 4 flourescent tubes on).

Shaverlight - metal, but no earth?

Interesting question. Manufacturers instructions don't cover this issue - have been happily doing so on our old linolite for years.

Shaverlight - metal, but no earth?

Can't but help agree, just noticed that the pull cord comes out at the very back of the bottom edge. What do most people have under a shaverlight? A mirror :o so pull cord will run flush down the surface of any mirror under the unit!!!!!

Shaverlight - metal, but no earth?

OP did say "under the mounting screw" - not 100% clear I'll admit - but a lug and washer under the screw head is what I had in mind. That's part of the problem - instructions say use the choc block inside, as supplied the choc block is outside with it's own IP44 rubber case - which you would...

Shaverlight - metal, but no earth?

Not sure why adding a earth point (inside) would break the IP44 rating - this will make no difference to the water resistance (unless I drilled tha case - which would be foolish). Actually the instructions tell me to make the connection by pulling the mains cable through the grommet and using...

Shaverlight - metal, but no earth?

Hi I've just taken delivery of a DAR Alto shaverlight. Very odd connection method - there is an external choc block with an IP44 cover (size about 1" * 1" * 2" in all). It appears you are supposed to create a cavity in the wall/tiling for this - odd, but fair enough, however the choc bloc is...

Where do 2-way switch wires go? New ikea 4 old fluor

In the switches is the red/black cable attached to the 1 and 2 terminals of the switches and the red only cable to the Common (com). This would make a 2 way switching arrangement with the two red only wires representing a (logical) switch at the light fitting. This is not how it's normally done...

Increasing speed of pump or changing it?

LOL    Athough to be fair Softus didn't say use "your bowel" just "a bowel" - presumably he has one just for this purpose in his van. Softus - which do you prefer Pig or Cow bowel, or does it depend on the size of the system.

    Favorite boilers??

Our boiler is 27+ years old and one thermocouple replacement in the 20 years we've been in the house! Like canwefixit I'm looking around at replacements with trepidation. But then again we must remember you only tend to see the problems here.

    Grunfos UPE15 Electronic V's Alpha

But what's different about the UPE?? Just been and read the technical documents - UPE has: Remote control RS485 communications (for connection to a pump control system) Fault indicators Temperature adjust (can configure head to change as temp increases). So not for your average...

    spot the hazard

Possible back injury from poorly placed toolbox, should be alongside at waist height to avoid repeated turning and bending over. Is that 1in of rubber on the bottom of the tank?

    Grunfos UPE15 Electronic V's Alpha

Likewise I'm interested in the difference - purely academic as becuase the alpha+ near enough is the same price as a standard 15-50, I've already decided to fit one (rather than the UPE). Likewise alpha pro may be cheaper to run but not sure about how long the ROI period will be.

Bathroom project - am I right?

Sheds do them for £200. Just fitted the a B&Q (tapmate) one in our family bathroom - looks good, works well. Shower head is plain so might fit a variable head at some point - but then again kids are 18 and 14 it will probably only get 4 years of use (before I change the locks that is :twisted...

New Rad nowhere near as warm

Should be cured by balancing - just try tweaking the hottest rads down a bit by bit to see if that helps. Also what speed is the pump on - most have 3, turning it up may should help - but exhaust the balancing possibilies before resorting to that.

    NTC sensor

How with one sensor (+ve or -ve) could you measure the flow/return difference? That would be clever :D After posting I was researching for a boiler replacement and noticed that several service diagrams referenced NTCs on flow and return. I suspect the most of the micro controllers used in...

Replacement Radiator TRV's - need Help tracking them down

Er - none at all  got my logic inverted, was thinking of downstairs in a house, where it's difficult to avoid draining all the upstairs pipework (even with all the rads shut off). If anything a bungalow would be easier.

Replacement Radiator TRV's - need Help tracking them down

Assuming it's not a bungalow, why drain the entire system down for a bathroom valve? Close both valves on all upstairs raditors to isolate (not number of turns of each lockshield first, so you can restore balance). If a vented system cork the header tank - guess how much water is in the...
