Immersion Thermostat and element - Burnt Out after 4 months!

I see. So is it worth taking this back to screwfix if no longer works as I am not entirely sure what I could have done differently. On a side note to test the element and thermostat do i just: Element: Use Ohm test with mulitmeter. If so what resistance should I see? Thermostat: Check...

Immersion Thermostat and element - Burnt Out after 4 months!

Hi endecotp, The second photo with wire in is the remains of the brown live wire from the thermostat to heating element in the first picture, it was what came supplied with the thermostat from what I remember. I assumed the stripped end was adequate as the manufacturer supplied it that way. Bit...

Immersion Thermostat and element - Burnt Out after 4 months!

Really? What would explain the rust coving so much inside the cap? This is how I had it installed 4 months ago: Not sure what I could have done differently? I am surprised the timer fuse or breaker didn’t trip! I tried replacing the live from the star but the timer output goes off...

Immersion Thermostat and element - Burnt Out after 4 months!

Hi Guys, I replaced my immersion element as it was very old with a Tesla Titanium Immersion Heater Element 27" from screwfix in February. It is connected to a timer whereby we tend to just use 1hr or 2hr boost when needed, no other time. Today the water wasn't heating so I had a look at the...

Bungalow Loft Insulation - Electrics (again)

Is it a DIYable job to replace redo the earths or must it be done by a sparky??

Bungalow Loft Insulation - Electrics (again)

Out of interest how should the earths be wired? Inside the junction box's or using insulated wire etc?

    Boxing Bag Support Bar Fixings

That's what I was kind of worried about. Not sure the best way to approach this really. Even on the face of that pier, I think it might loosen them?

    Car Port

Sorry I don't think I was very clear what I hope to do. The wall on the right and path leading to it is indeed my neighbours, which I am not proposing to cover. Here is a quick indication: I am not sure about the rules regarding the wall and if it is classed as mine etc? This is the view...

    Car Port

Regarding the wall, I am not 100% as this is our first house. The plans just show a rough boundary so not entirely sure where I can find out if the wall is mine? I assume it is purely because if you follow it back to the garage it is on my side so to speak, i.e from inside the garage it falls on...

    Car Port

I would like to erect a carport to cover my campervan from the elements. I just wanted to check what you guys think regarding permitted development and any tips on the best kind to use. I was thinking something along the lines of this, however, wanted your advice on what would be best given my...

Bungalow Loft Insulation - Electrics (again)

I know this has been covered a great deal but just wanted to run my thinking past you guys. So the property I have moved into is an old 1070's bungalow and the insulation is the loft is pretty poor and thin in places so would like to get this as good as I can and near 270mm. I am aware...

    Boxing Bag Support Bar Fixings

Hi Guys, Our bungalow has a kinda poor conservatory/utility space at the rear that my wife and I are making into an exercise area. We would like to have a Muay Thai punch bag in the middle. My initial thinking is to fix a beam across space with one end fixed to the top of this support...

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

OK so it was stiff, but with a few knocks of hammer and a strong right arm she came loose. Turns out the thermostat was adjustable but from the body of the stat! Anyway replaced with new and swapped the on//off switch with timer / boost switch. Thanks for help everyone :)

Seized gate valve from header to immersion

OK so I drained via the hot water taps and had a load of towels ready... Luckily only about 50 ml worth came out. Replaced the immersion and swapped on/off switch for timed / boost one. Weeped a little at first as I was worried about over tightening but nipped it up and seems good. Just heating...

Seized gate valve from header to immersion

Unfortunately my cylinder does not have a drain off valve :( I am curreently draining the tank via the hot taps. Is there no way I can prevent water leaking out? How much are we talking once the header tank is drained?

Seized gate valve from header to immersion

I would like to replace my ancient heater element on my immersion tank but the only valve from the header to the cylinder is seized. I managed to get maybe 5 degrees turn on it but reluctant to get tools on it encase I break it. Any suggestions? Heat? Bung the hole leaving the header tank...

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

OK most parts on order :) My last question is the size of immersion heater I should get. My current one which is ancient is 14". I wondered which I should go for when replacing and started to look at larger 27" ones but not sure if I should / can with my tank as the 2 pipes coming out the rear...

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

Perfect. And a ridiculous question I am sure but when ordering a jacket is the measurement the circumference or just width and height? Measuring as best I can without removing the jacket seems to be about 900mm high and 450mm wide. Do I therefore need a 36" x 18" jacket?

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

Is the thermostat on the top one that is used to set the desired temp of the water or is it meant to be used as a kind of safety cutoff limit?

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

I think this might be a good place to start also. The tank doesn't seem to have any visible markings to indicate its capacity. Is there an easy way to determine its capacity / size so I can get the correct jacket and also the correct immersion heater size? We are only a couple and do not have a...
