Gap under skirting after going from carpet to floorboards

Quick question, What's the best way to deal with a gap under the skirting after removing carpet and going with floorboards? My wife mentioned some sort of foam stripe but I was thinking some sort of sealer? Any advice?

Going forward with updating old heating / hot water system in bungalow

Thanks for the input everyone. We moved in in January and at first were a bit worried about the heating but I must say I have actually been impressed. It is great not having radiators everywhere and it is very fast to heat up and gets rather toasty! As it has been well serviced we will this WAH...

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

Yea a thermometer, seems the immersion element is old and does not have an adjustable thermostat hence wanting to swap it. My main query is whether the cylinder itself is work reusing or if a new one would pay for itself so to speak with modern insulation etc?

Going forward with updating old heating / hot water system in bungalow

Hot water pressure is fine at the moment, my only thinking was that I could use the existing pipe going from the airing cupboard to the bathroom and not have to rip up the floor for a new dedicated shower pipe.

Going forward with updating old heating / hot water system in bungalow

I thought this too but when I saw it in the image above I assumed there must be some sort of regulator local to the 2 taps? Just looking if there is going to be a way to achieve all this without having to pull floors up and add pipes etc, but if that is what needs to be done for a good job than...

Going forward with updating old heating / hot water system in bungalow

The bathroom at some point had a bath and I found the capped off hot and cold pipes for this under a board and thought maybe I could use the existing pipes at least from where it enters the bathroom? During my research I found this image and thought it indicated I could add the pump (with a...

Going forward with updating old heating / hot water system in bungalow

Was actually discussing this with the mrs a minute ago. My thinking was that we could just get hot water as and when needed for the kitchen but on second thoughts if the immersion boiler was more efficient we could heat it for when we get home from work and it would still be hot without much...

Does this immersion cylinder need replacing?

So it seems I could do with replacing my immersion filament as a minimum because it is an old model and does not have an adjustable thermostat on it. Would the cylinder itself be reusable or should it be replaced? or if I can just upgrade the insulation. It has these 2 outlets on the back...

Going forward with updating old heating / hot water system in bungalow

I thought I would start a thread to gather any advice you knowledgeable lot might be able to give regarding my current setup and moving forward. Situation - 1970's bungalow - Me and my wife live here with no kids and both work so used mainly mornings, evenings and weekends - No kids - Warm Air...

Immersion Tank Timer and Thermostat Advice

Looking back through the paperwork that was left with the house it seams the old lady who lived here for 30 years had the warm air heater serviced every year but I cannot see any specific service receipts for the boiler but I assume she had it checked periodically. Either way I think you are...

Immersion Tank Timer and Thermostat Advice

Interesting, not sure what the best bet going forward is. The warm air system is pretty good and meets our needs so will be staying. Hot water we would like to update however. We are playing with the idea of a gas boiler being installed where the immersion is, then if my thinking is right we...

Immersion Tank Timer and Thermostat Advice

The current one isn’t leaking it’s just a pan underneath. It doesn’t appear to have a thermostat built in however! I think it has been regularly serviced as well as the warm air as it was lived in by an elderly lady who would pay to have it all checked.

Immersion Tank Timer and Thermostat Advice

So it seems I have an immersion tank with only a on / off switch in the new bungalow my wife and I have moved into. We only use hot water in the kitchen and bathroom taps in the evening, no bath or hot water fed shower. It is a pain remembering to turn it off via the switch and a few times...

Options from current Warm Air Heating and Electric Immersion Tank

Ah sounds like a similar situation to us. I can't work out what the connection to between the warm air and the immersion is but occasionally we get warm water from the hot water taps without the immersion having been on. Have not been in the property long so not 100% but seems the warm air...

Options from current Warm Air Heating and Electric Immersion Tank

As the title really. My wife and I moved into an old 1970's bungalow that has a cold water cistern in the attic, a gas warm air vented heating system and an electric immersion tank that runs simply from an on off switch for the hot water. We are looking in the future to redo the bathroom and...

Modairflow Thermostat Replacement on Warm Air Ducted Heating

Morning all, I recently moved into a 1970's bungalow which has warm air ducted heating. The system seems well maintained and works pretty well so we will not be replacing it in the near future at least. The thermostat does not seem to be that great and setting 7 seems too hot and 6 too cold...

No BT Master Socket in 70's Bungalow

Thanks for clearing all that up. I will remove all the extension wiring from the master socket and leave only the blue and orange wires from the junction box as they are in IDC 2 and 5. Out of interest what would be the best cable to replace the grey wiring coming out of the junction box. I...

No BT Master Socket in 70's Bungalow

OK I think I will do this myself then. To clarify: - Do not need extension sockets so will remove the white wiring going from my current main socket - What colours do what, and which do I disconnect / keep from my current BT junction box seem here: The incoming line is on the left. The black...

No BT Master Socket in 70's Bungalow

Thanks for the reply. We do not really need any sockets other than one for the router as we use mobile nowadays, however when we go to resell in the future I think one socket would be expected despite wanting to locate the router into the attic as we live in a bungalow. The cable from the...
