Hello, Does anyone know what this plant is, and more importantly what is attacking it. It doesn't look very well to me. Is there a cure or is it time to dig it out?

It is a dummy chimney, but made of brick. If there was a fault there, wouldn't the damp be shown from directly underneath ? I have drilled a couple more inspection holes tonight and found a couple of more wet areas. The old inspection holes are now dry which is something I guess.

Thanks guys. The game has changed slightly as I have now found that the cavity is full of the white ball type insulation. I'm trying to come up with a plan to remove the block, stop the million insulation balls filling my bathroom, then refit the block and insulate behind again. Right game. ...:)

I would still get the problem with the hardibacker as the biggest I can find is 12mm and the aqua 12.5mm butting up against my existing plasterboard which is 15mm.

Could you not use expansion foam to fill the hole, cut off the unwanted but once cured, then fill over,?
