    Bath / taps dilemma

Not sure on that one really, maybe not frotthing up bubble bath!!?? Plus, depending on what you choose not all baths have a corner to mount them on, ours doesn't. As far as maintaining pipework is concerned, use as long a flexys as you can get and connect to exisiting pipework that fed old...

    Travertine - seal before grouting?

Will the ivory grout stain the travertine then? That was the only reason I did it on slate as anything seemed to be hard to remove from those unless sealed. I'm sure when I did my marble ones I grouted before sealing without problem, but can't be sure

    Bath / taps dilemma

I think you just have to take your chances. I have just fitted a double ended bath with centre mounted taps. People say how will you change them if there is a problem, but I've not had a problem with the old stuff that has been here in the 2 years I've lived here. If I did, I'd try my...

    Cleaners & inhibitors

    Cleaners & inhibitors

Well, I've sorted the blockage in the pipe. I still believe this was caused by the bag of chemical that was in the F&E tank shedding some of whatever it had in it as there doesn't appear to be enough limescale anywhere else to signify a constant topping up of water. Just concerned that it...

    Cleaners & inhibitors

After finding a blockage in the flow fill pipe from F&E tank I am debating using a chemical cleaner. This is a 1960's conventional boiler, F&E tank in loft, all pretty std stuff. Would I be opening up a can of worms by adding a cleaner to the system? Released sludge causing blockages...

    Travertine - seal before grouting?

I'm sure when I laid Slate I was advised to seal before grouting, in case the grout stained, then again after grouting. Can't remember what I did with the marble! Anyway, I've just laid a travertine floor and am going to use ivory grout, do I need to seal before I grout, or OK to...

    Hunter soilpipe adaptors

I need a 32mm rubber adaptor to suit a Hunter Plastics soil pipe boss. My local plumbers merchants don't sell any Hunter stuff. Anyone know of any nationwide merchants that would stock them?

    BATHROOM PROJECT

Oh and my wood flooring is just T&G boards. I have screwed them down at joists and am using BAL fastflex. I'd weigh up the costs and time and go with either really.

    BATHROOM PROJECT

Well, if you feel up to the job of dealing with shower yourself and can do without it until bathroom is done, then I'd disconnect it and as said above chase the wall and bury your pipework to suit, then leave suitably isolated ready for new shower. As long as you have planned the route of all...

    BATHROOM PROJECT

Just doing the same myself. Where the current water connections are, do you have isolation valves close to the floor? If not first of all turn off water and fit some of these. Then be sure that not pipework alterations are needed to suit new suite. I had to move pipework as I was...

    TRV - reversible flow?

Nope, no screw, it was a ****ty push fit design that was very tight. Levered it off in the end :) I must have been having a blonde moment :D

    TRV - reversible flow?

No offence taken. Here's a good one for you. The lockshield side, how the hell do you shut it off? On a rad the cover just spins but you can close the valve underneath, this thing just spins and the cover doesn't come off. Am I just not pulling hard enough!! It's these ones...

    TRV - reversible flow?

My TRV that came with a towel rad (ECA) says it is reversible flow, but then in the instructions it says pay attention to the flow direction arrow when assembling?? The valve head has an arrow pointing towards the rad connection, and also one pointing towards the water connection. Does it...

    CH draining - this OK?

It is white scale that has blocked the flow fill pipe. Howver I'm wondering if it's the bag of white stuff that has caused this as the stuff it appears to be filled with is floating about everywhere. The rads had black water in as usual, but it wasn't thick. I'll see how I get on at...

    CH draining - this OK?

:) It drained OK, although very slowly. I can see what the problem is now, the flow fill pipe is almost totally blocked with scale  Going to have to try chiseling it away. Would cut and remake the pipe at back of header tank but access is very awkward/limited. This bag of...

    CH draining - this OK?

Right, connected downstairs rad valve to hose pipe and turned water on, just low pressure to start with. Started getting air bubbles at header tank, then lots of air bubbles, then after a while it stopped and water started coming up over the vent. I have just turned the hose off and left...

    CH draining - this OK?

Cheers John, yeah should've thought about pump running dry. When I drained system this morning the header tank drained down to about 1cm left inbottom. Water was fairly black out of rads as expected. Water in header tank is orange? Also someone has left a netted bag in there with some sort...

    CH draining - this OK?

Used a 3/4" - 1/2" socket with a 1/2" hose connector on the end and drained from a rad valve, all OK :) Did what I wanted to do, just untied the ball cock to refill, header tank is full, but nothing at any rads :( Opened bleeders, nothing. Opened the rad valve that I had the hose on...
