    Door painting blunder!

Hi all. Yesterday I made a big old whoopsie and just trying to establish how much of a whoopsie. I have interior doors with lots of glass panels. Previously varnished. I sanded off varnish - that was fine, I think! I went to buy new supplies as leant my primer to someone and in error...

    reassurance required… painting interior doors?

Ah, excellent. Another question I have. I have just seen a very old forum string where someone said that the areas that they sandpapered and put the satin straight over did not chip, whereas the areas that they used undercoat followed by satin did chip. Is it better to use undercoat on...

    Big pipes in attic?

That's exactly what's happening! Lol. No one has been up there for years so now I'm wondering what could have caused it to separate lol. Do you think it's wear and tear? When we looked up there with a torch it looked like a lot of tape was used around the pipes. Is this normal or had a previous...

    Big pipes in attic?

That sounds like it! Sorry rubbish with guessing measurements. It does poke out of the top of roof. It's the part inside that had just separated. Is it just for air then?

    Big pipes in attic?

It's not my flat. She doesn't have a ladder to access the flap to get in the attic Anyway. She is calling someone out to fix but I was just wondering what the pipes do? They're similar diameter to pipes that you have on the outside of house that take water from guttering to drains but a bit...

    Big pipes in attic?

Ok big as in diameter at a guess 20-25 cm. all I could see in there was from the landing shining in! I wondered if they may be vent pipes? The pipes are round and leads straight up to the top of roof and out by the looks. There are 2 identical pipes that both are supposed to go out roof. One...

    Big pipes in attic?

Hi, I live in a ground floor maisonette. My neighbour above has discovered a leak coming from the attic through the bathroom ceiling. She doesn't have a ladder to access her loft so hasn't been up there for a number of years. We shone a torch up there and I noticed that there are 2 thick...

Leak after combi boiler installed... Part 2!

Update on this was the mixer pipe that was embedded in the wall was leaking. He said that if I have a new body put on the shower then this will short out the leak... but also recommended changing the shower to a surface mounted unit so any leaks will be in the bathroom rather than in the wall...

Shower - surface mount or recessed?

That was why I am considering it. I don't really want to end up having true wall dug out in the future... Any recommendations on a shower surface mounted lol. I know absolutely nothing about what I should be looking for!

Shower - surface mount or recessed?

The plumber replaced the cartridge last Friday as there was a leak from the front of the control unit.

Shower - surface mount or recessed?

its not a shower as such, just the shower head thing over a bath jobbie... the unit i have is recessed at the moment and the leak has caused it to saturate the wall. the plumber said to get the surface mounted will involve removing 2 tiles and replacing.

Shower - surface mount or recessed?

Had the plumbers round today to sort out my shower leak following combi-boiler installation. It turned out the pipes were leaking into the wall. I currently have a recessed shower unit. The plumber has disconnected the shower to stop the leak in the short term. I am hoping this has...

Leak after combi boiler installed... Part 2!

I hope I don't regret it! Leaks are such a nuisance. Such a mess! In a weird way, I am hoping that the leak is coming from the same source as before, rather than a new one! The thought of new leaks appearing left, right, and centre is too much for my brain to cope with right now...

Leak after combi boiler installed... Part 2!

Yes well the cartridge installation is clearly wrong. I know nothing about plumbing but even I could see that. As for the leak they did say that they solved the problem. Starting to wish I just had the old boiler fixed rather than replacing now :-(

Leak after combi boiler installed... Part 2!

I have told them I think it's still leaking. In addition to the cost of boiler I paid £250 on Friday to have the leak and cartridge sorted!

Leak after combi boiler installed... Part 2!

To cut a long story short, recently had combi boiler installed replacing water tank boiler. The guys had to fit new valve in toilet when that leaked on day one of installation. After they went I noticed that the cupboard which had water tank in was damp. Turned out that the shower was...
