Hi endecotp, Thank you for that. I'm not doubting the qualifications of the presumably competent person who did the report. The concern was the report was from 2015 and there are broken tiles in places.

I didn't use any glue for fixing the firrings, just screws and countersunk the ones where the firrings got thicker. I'm not sure I'd trust glue on its own but I'm only a diyer so one of pros might suggest otherwise.

You'll fix your firrings to the joist first and then the OSB on top so the screws will pass through to the joist at the thinner end. Towards the thicker end make sure the firrings are adequately fixed to the joist where your screws won't reach the joist. Alternatively you could use longer...

Hi Reg, thanks for the suggestion, I managed to chisel out a bit of a channel and put a glazing packer on each joist. Its not the best but at least its not resting on The pipe and doesn't make noise. I think it may be time for new boards in he new year. Cheers
