    Rewire specifications

I read it online. Part m I think. It says that sockets need to be 350mm from corners. I think that's because a person in a wheelchair would struggle to use in sockets close to corner. I am thinking of putting socket underneath switch so want them to line up. The door frame and wall make a...

I know that. I want to do it according to regs (even though they don't apply). It's for future proofing. Anyhow does a switch or socket have to be 350mm from front door as in photo above?

    Rewire specifications

Not talking about safe zones. Do switches and sockets have to be 350mm from a corner with current regs? I am going to have it wired with current regs. Thinking about it I prefer the heights of the switches and sockets.

    Rewire specifications

I have decided to have them set at current regs. I'll be doing the chasing myself. Would entering the property be considered a corner? For light switches I have gone with 150mm from architrave. But would I have to fit it at 350mm for switch at front enterance if considered a corner? Cheers

    New windows

Hi. I'm thinking of having new uPVC windows. Under the old windows they are sitting on a piece of timber 2cm thick. Is it best to remove timber for new windows to sit directly on brickwork? Will sit on sill. Or is it better to have timber under sill? Cheers

Blocking up air vents in bedroom

@stem that makes sense. I was also thinking the channel would be visible other way around which doesn't look pleasing and more chance of flys getting in. It's an extra bathroom so won't be used much and there's a window also. Will keep it way it is for now. Cheers mate

Blocking up air vents in bedroom

Hi. Thanks for response. It's a cavity wall filled with insulation. The small bedroom one was rendered over. I know ventilation is important but the size is too big. Two bricks high. Is there any other reason for the vents like allowing air to cavity? I know many houses get mold because...

Blocking up air vents in bedroom

Hi. I have some ugly airv in my 3 bed semi . They are in the box room and one bedroom. Also one in bathroom which I will use for a fan. There are no gas fires and chimney breasts and chimney stack removed. I've removed the metal grills as they have rusted and I'm about to brick up. I see new...

    Question on render

Right the render is finally off. Pain in backside. I had somebody come to have a look. For sand and cement recommended 10mm beads. Is this right? Seems a bit small.

    Cutting lead flashing

Right I'm pretty confident doing this now. Is 15 to 20mm in brick sufficient? Then will use rolled up lead and point with lead sealant. Finally will apply patination oil.

    Cutting lead flashing

Hi. Im doing lead flashing on porch. It's around 5.5m long. Using 9 inch code 4. What's best way to cut it. Don't have any special cutters. Have a Stanley knife. I know max length of flashing is 1.5m. is 100mm overlap ok (can seal with lead sealant). Don't want to buy another roll...

    Question on render

Hi. I've decided to get all of it rendered as per your advice. I'm removing old render with sds. Would I have to go back to brick? As the base coat is on really well. The top pebble dashing comes off easily enough. Thanks
