    sound proofing

Secondary glazing will improve the windows areas, stud walling with a rockwool infill will improve wall areas, but the sound transfer through wall into joists and then ceiling similar to the noise thro roof. Lots of insulation needed.

    Ceiling hole!!

Must be a local expression , never heard of a ceiling cap, but I bet the plaster boys tell you a different way.

Moving the kitchen to other side of bungalow:how easy?

I think it will be covered by Build Reg Part F - ventilation, removal of stale/damp air.

    cutting and restraining ceiling joist

No a strut is a vertical support member. I meant to use as an alternative to an acrow prop. Support the weight from floor below, it takes weight of the area your working on. It may be easier in the long run to support joists to be cut by acrows up to a piece of board spanning under 2/3 joist...

    Bathroom extactor fan location

I`m pretty sure a 240 volt fan above shower isnt allowed. Ok if low voltage with transformer elsewhere (attic or airing cupbd.) Ceiling mount same unless you use the ducted type and again fan motor in attic.

    cutting and restraining ceiling joist

A bit dodgy with straps etc. Use acrows or timber struts skew nailed up to joists. Sorry didn`t read padstone bit properley. Is using joist hangers off top of padstone a posssible? Means cutting joists close to wall i know but will be a better long term fix.

Pointing, how much is it, how to tell if decent?

I bought an Arbotech `twin blade sawing` tool last year, great for taking bricks out complete ready to spin and fix. Blades for complete cut through single skins, ideal for new doorways, both lintels install and then vert. cuts for demo. Blades for tuck pointing. Blades for single brick removal...

    cutting and restraining ceiling joist

Think you need to explain it a bit clearer, we cant see you waving your arms about to show us. It seems to much reliance on strapping from first read. Joists dont need padstones usually. Joists support floors not other way. More info please. :?

Collapsing Bricks - advice required urgently!

Theoldun has it nailed this time fellas, a few photos aren`t enough to analyse all of the probs on this build, but answers to his questions will lead to a good understanding of most of them. Basics seem to have been missed in the build from start to finish.Re;- Foundations, Single brick or...

Moving the kitchen to other side of bungalow:how easy?

The boiler has to be on an outside wall, or rather the flue has to pass thro an outside wall as does the condensate/pressure relief pipes. (you cant do the gas unless Gas Safe certed) As we assume a new build extn. then wiring to part P will be needed, and take care of issue with cooker point...

Building simple BBQ on uneven tarmac 'path'.

In this instance I`d say gaps are good.

Building simple BBQ on uneven tarmac 'path'.

As a novice bricky you will struggle to get level and square unless you start from a good flat base (defo not tarmac). Try to work the design in full brick you cant buy half brick unless damaged. Although after a little practice and cussing, a good bolster and lump will cut most brick of the...

Moving the kitchen to other side of bungalow:how easy?

Usually the waste is the stumbling block, providing you have foul drain handy, go for it. The main stop tap, if in old kichen could be boxed in, you still need hot/cold over but no worry.

    Bedding for drain inspection cover

Use some cuts of plain tiles from roof merchants, to take up the slack, bedded and then bed frame in.

    damp problems

I`m not say it is the problem and indeed may be acceptable, but as you said the damp in this area only occured after the insul. then maybe thats where you start the investigation. As its only showing on outer skin and below DPC it may not be an issue, thats what DPCs are for. Peace of mind may...

Knock Down Stone Hedge & Replace With A Gate

I read the title wrong at first. Thought you meant Stone henge, big ruddy stones them! I assume the stone to be laid in dry stone config? So when you remove them and soil for your cutting through you `ll have big ugly ragged ends showing. Could be your cue to learn how to dry stone wall, you...

    damp problems

Give the insulation guys a ring explaining prob. they should be able to send a surveyor out to check in case their work has filled lower cavity below DPC or similar.

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

This simple fix for getting a flat ceiling is getting a bit intense. First posting never mentioned fire rating or sound proofing. However the resilient bar system is to be screwed at every joist crossing, so you still have to pack down to a level or at least straight run. otherwise the bar...

Half brick wide walls in terrace

If you can see though to next doors attic, you havn`t finished the fire break yet. Seal it up tight.
