Pendant Lamp holder in upstairs toilet.

Good Evening, A friend down the road from me wishes to replace his damaged and fancy light fitting in his upstairs toilet. He is quite happy to replace it with a normal light fitting. I suggested a Batten-Holder, but he has a newly packaged pendant set amongst a few pieces of junk. The...

Any information on these vintage items?

I was thinking, could they be Service Fuse Cutouts? Although only 15 Amp, perhaps at a time when electricity was used only for lighting (5 Amp)?

Any information on these vintage items?

I gathered they'd be no use Today, but yes, just going by the weight, you can tell they were built to last.

Do you turn off the circuit when changing a lightbulb?

A 1930s crafts and home maintenance book I have at home states "When changing a lamp, always make sure the switch is off, otherwise if the filament of the new lamp is faulty, it may cause the lamp to explode". If I get a chance, I'll post a photo of the page (Having a few jars right now ....)...

    Plugs already included with appliances

My Mother bought a Philips Europa Washing Machine in January 1984 (Machine manufactured in 1983). It came with a moulded (Albeit pins un-sleeved) plug. The L & N plug pins were 'Hollow'. (Over time, the plug started to get warm, and eventually in 2006- yes, the machine was STILL in use then...

7A fuses, thoughts? UPDATE, It gets better...

I've been back to the shop today (But didn't buy/ask anything) and look what else I've found, 13 Amp BS1362 fuses...(No, the 'Scan for more' thing doesn't work). Also (Although I'm not a spark) I thought multi gang switches (I.E. two or more switches on the same plateswitch) were always 2 way?

7A fuses, thoughts? UPDATE, It gets better...

Good Afternoon I didn't ask what they were for (Saying that the shop owners/workers English is quite poor) and I didn't actually buy any (The photos I've posted were taken within the shop). If I remember rightly, I think they might have been next to all the other 'Normal' (Well, normal...

What IP rating is this 'Outdoor Light'?....

I understand it's unlikely to get 'too wet', but looking at it, it appears to be a standard open-backed batten holder, so only really suitable for indoor use I'd have thought. As for impact, I've been told the bulb has been smashed at least once (It's in a small 'Village Town' in the 'Sticks'...

Good Afternoon Yesterday, my Mother attempted to use her oven, but it basically didn't work at all (no heat, light or fan) and also the grill on the cooker didn't work either, BUT, the rings all worked fine. A little while later, she tried it again and it all worked fine. I also used the...

    Tool for use with Bolts?

Good Evening A relative has found something that has been owned for the last 50 - 60 years, and apparently it is/was used for holding bolts in place/stop them from slipping away whilst tightening a nut to them, e.g when working on a vehicle. I have attached a few photos of the item, and also a...

LAP Voltage Tester RCD Test function

Many Thanks I didn't expect this product to be very sophisticated, regarding its price, however the instructions ('Americanised' state to probe between Hot and Ground, so L & E, which is what I've done). Saying that though, isn't an actual RCD Test button resistor linked between L & N, so...
