    Memera 21 Consumer Unit Parts

Evening All A friend wishes to put an electric shower in to his property. I have informed him about BC etc but here goes. His house was rewired in 1984 and has two lighting circuits, 2 rings, 1 cooker and 1 immersion circuit. The CU is a Memera 21 with main switch and 2 spare ways, rated...

    My First Condoms!

As far as it went for things like this I had a very "hush hush" attitude as far as speaking to my parents on these kind of things went. I couldn't imagine myself really talking to them much about these things. Personally I preferred it this way. I did though have sex education classes...

A couple of questions about cables

Hello Everyone A couple of things I have often thought about 1) Now that 1.5mm cable is normally used for lighting, but 1.0mm used to be used, if as an electrician you go to a domestic property to add an extra light and switch by breaking in to the lighting circuit, what size would you use...

MIG Welder- is a Seperate Supply Circuit Needed?

Mine didn't! It just had the flex end stripped with copper crimped over the bare ends like appliance manufacturers often do when fitting plugs.

MIG Welder- is a Seperate Supply Circuit Needed?

Cheers everyone The language used in the instructions doesn't seem good either since in some places it says 'live' an 'neutral' and others 'positive' and 'negative' (yes, referring to the mains supply conductors!). Despite it been ok on smaller loads, like I said I have seen some pictures...

MIG Welder- is a Seperate Supply Circuit Needed?

This is exactly what I was thinking. I'm also not sure if it actually says which setting is the maximum for a standard plug settings 1-6. The machine is marked 30-135 amps i presume the output/ welding current? Powrcraft combination gas/no gas MIG welder purchased from Aldi. Yes I was a...

MIG Welder- is a Seperate Supply Circuit Needed?

OK But would this actually be protected by a fuse or would a 32 amp mcb possibly type C, D etc be ok? (to install a seperate switchfuse, next to the CU, for the industrial type socket mentioned is not an option due to lack of space) Also is RCD tripping possible since I have heard welders...

MIG Welder- is a Seperate Supply Circuit Needed?

HI My father has just bought a combination as/no gas MIG welder and am a bit confused about the supply. The instruction book in the begining says Model pcmig135/09 circuit breaker 30A. For Welding currents up to 65Amp (lower settings) a 13amp plug may be used and for above (higher...

    Main Isolator.

Just had a thought: Seeing that many think these isolators after the meter pre CU are a good thing and some a bad thing, at least with a single pole isolator in the live only it MAY BE less likely to go wrong than a DP isolator since when these kind of things burn/overheat etc it is ALWAYS...

Why can't you add a triple socket as a spur?

HI everyone, thanks for your advice. It is from a "Wiring and Lighting" 'Creative Do It Yourself' series published 1994 (ward lock). So if I needed to then would it be ok to add a triple socket as a spur? (say in a bedroom or sitting room) Regards

Why can't you add a triple socket as a spur?

Thanks. But I have just looked again and as for adding sockets it says: "A spur can feed either one single or double socket. You cannot add a triple socket as a spur" But yet it mentions "triple sockets have an integral 13 amp fuse to protect from overloading". Just doesn't seem to...

Why can't you add a triple socket as a spur?

Evening Everyone Why is it the case with the above, as it says in several do it yourself books? With triple sockets having a built in 13 amp fuse I would have thought this would limit the current drawn long before a 2.5mm spur would get get overloaded? Thanks

If you wrote the regs, what would you do/change?

Evening Myself I would keep the RCD rule for all general use sockets and showers etc but would scrap the RCD 50mm rule (since I think it is one thing going a bit over the top) and the new alterations and extensions rule. I was just wondering what new regulations would everyone...
