    RCD Trip

I switched everything on that circuit off - then turned everything back on until it tripped. The other things on that circuit are a radio, and LED lamp, garage door opener and the microwave. The microwave was the last of those I switched on and immediately tripped the RCD. I guess you're...

    RCD Trip

Earlier this evening for no apparent reason the RCD tripped. Through a process of elimination I identified it was something on the garage circuit causing the issue. Any reset of the RCD and having this breaker switched on caused an immediate trip. Again through a process of elimination I...

How Do I Plumb This Sink In? [Pic]

You need one of these, Mcalpine 1.5 bowl kit: https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-double-1-bowl-sink-kit-white-40mm/71787 Other suppliers are available... Presume your new sink has a deeper bowl than the old one? You will need to find a way to let the water run in its natural direction.

Not a tumble drier fire! So the American says!

Not exactly, they were on on a boat. In one of the cases some of the cloths had been used to clean up a cooking oil spillage in the galley. I think the other case was oil from coveralls. Less likely scenario's in a domestic setting, and the tumble driers were likely commercial grade machines...

Not a tumble drier fire! So the American says!

If you follow the link I posted above you'll see that that increases the risk if any traces of oil remain. I have seen quite a few safety bulletins on this issue through my work.

    Remote Switching

Yes thats exactly what I want. I will look into the easyswitch device, but to add further complication the light switch in question is a double gang unit which also works the ceiling lights

    Remote Switching

With regards to the power saver suggestion, thats a good one that I hadn't considered at all - but the ones that seem most suited for my needs involve a remote control. What I'm trying to achieve is to use the existing light switch as the trigger for both the existing lights and the new. Its...

    Remote Switching

Hello, I tried this in the automation section but didn't have much response. It doesn't seem too lively in there at the moment. In my kitchen I have a run of units with undercabinet lighting fed from the lighting circuit with a dedicated switch on the wall. I also have a dresser unit which I...

    Remote Light Switch

Hello, I'm looking for a solution where switching on a light in one area of the room will also trigger a switch on in a different part of the room. Ideally though detection of line voltage on a lighting circuit light which remotely triggers a plug socket to switch on - is there a solution out...

    No Hot Water

Just to close this out, bought a replacement syncron motor from Screwfix, chucked it in and all is now working as it should.

    No Hot Water

Many thanks again, having studied the wiring diagram, traced the wires and measure the change in voltage when I switch the HW on or off I'm sure its the 2 port valve that's goosed rather than anything in the tank and so I'm going to replace the syncron motor myself.

    No Hot Water

What is the logic of the heating system? Programmer on = 240V to the tank stat. If the tank stat is calling for heat it closes and 240V goes to the 2 port valve? When this actuates to open a microswitch closes and power goes to the boiler and the pump? If the above is true, then when I...

    No Hot Water

OK - might have a look at that later. Lastly is there a safety concern with what I've done (bypassing the tank control valve to get the heating circuit to heat the water)? I guess its now being regulated by the CH water temperature of around 80 deg rather than 60 deg by the tank. But other...

    No Hot Water

Another question - this has an immersion heater in it - is the tank stat interlinked with the immersion heater stat or is there two separate stats? Because despite what I said above the immersion heater does appear to work - its just very slow. So if it uses the same stat as the indirect...

    No Hot Water

How far does it poke out when its tripped? It is protruding about a mm or so - would expect it to be further out if it had tripped?

    No Hot Water

Thanks, it probably wasn't necessary but the house was already quite warm so the heating shouldn't have needed to come on in normal circumstances if that makes sense.

    No Hot Water

Hadn't thought of shutting the CH valve. Would that not shut the boiler down? Seems to be heating the water up now, though I've had to turn the room stat up to keep the boiler firing. I'm not sure if it is or not to be honest. How would I check?

    No Hot Water

Hello, System is a pressurised hot water cylinder (Megaflow) fed from an oil fired boiler. There are two motorised valves in the garage, one for the CH and one for the hot water. When I put the hot water on on the timer it clicks and the light comes on but neither the pump or the valve...

    Megaflow tank air bubble refill

If its anything like mine be prepared to stand there for a long while. I'd consider using a heavy stiltson wrench or something to save the boredom
