Differences between a Henry Hoover and a Nuvak Hoover?

No asbestos that I know of ;) it's mainly for hoovering up the bits of scraped off paint and dust that may or may not be lead based, though assuming it is. I'm using a standard henry with hepa-flow cloth bags, though not sure if it's worth getting a Nuvac model as it uses the different...

Differences between a Henry Hoover and a Nuvak Hoover?

Henry uses TriTex filtration and Nuvak uses permatex filtration. Is one better for industrial cleaning jobs? ie cleaning lead paint so the dust doesn't escape out the hoover?

Filling deep cavitys between render and wood?

cheers Mike, I'm going to be using bonding on all the cracks so will fill then. I think it may be easier to just slap in the bonding like you said ;)

Painting Wood: Water based undercoat Vs Oil based?

Just wanted peoples opinions on this. I'm painting the wood architrave and skirting, so all interior wood. Just wondering if water based undercoat will do the job just as fine as oil based? I've had some pro decorators swear by oil based, though the fumes are pretty bad and its a pain to clean...

    Residue in respirator after rinsing

Hey all, so been using my respirator and realized it gets dusty on the surface, so I removed the filters and gave it a rinse. Though the other day I say white bits inside which is worrying as I've been using it when breaking off and stripping lead paint and also for breaking off bits of plaster...

is it very crumbly like sand? Could be a sand cement mix like mine, just water 5050 pva it and use bonding plaster to fill.

Filling deep cavitys between render and wood?

cheers vinn. How do you mean semi-dry anything? I got bits of old plaster shrapnel? Otherwise maybe I can mix a small bit of bonding, wait for it to dry a little and stuff that in.

Filling deep cavitys between render and wood?

Hello all, I've been taking off door architrave for stripping and noticed that chunks of the old sand mixture render between the wood frames and the black clinker brick wall cracked off and I pulled them out to reveal these deep cavities. Just wondering what is the best way to go about filling...

    Suitable respirator for lead paint?

looks good! I might try the scraper on the cupboard wall paint as not sure how the chemical would react to it. Did your paint test positive for lead in the end? Van you remember how much the kit cost?

    Suitable respirator for lead paint?

I've seen the scrapper technique. Was it easy? Looks like it creates alot of dust no? The videos they're all in hazmat gear with respirators which the area plastic contained like something out of E.T. :D chemicals are good as they don't create too much dust but are slow.

    Suitable respirator for lead paint?

cheers fp, yeah I saw the ones in brewers, though they seem just as pricey as the ones from the states around £40 I think :( I was using the heat gun though would get the odd wiff of fumes sometimes. Also the problem with the heat gun is it blows all the dust everywhere so need to be careful...

    Suitable respirator for lead paint?

Hey all, Can anyone recommend a suitable respirator for dealing with lead based paint? Ideally fumes though also scraping and sanding? 3M do a specific mask though I can't find this in the UK. Only available from the states so means waiting ages for it to arrive :( Also 3M do lead testing...

Need advice with replacing old electrical terminal

Yeah that carpet might have to come up :( I didn't measure the current as I only have the screwdriver tool and don't have access to any measuring tools at the time. I'm not relying on this as an accurate tool but it shows me if the wire is live or not. It pretty much showed up as live...

Need advice with replacing old electrical terminal

Just to add the only two grey wires that came out of the room I disconnected and the wires in the living room JB still had current. There was one singular white wire coming out of the room next to the grey wires that went into its own junction box and connected to the toilet. I think this must...

Need advice with replacing old electrical terminal

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I didn't ignore your advise as I spent most of the morning testing junction boxes I could access and trying to figure out the source of the wire. I though I found it in the hallway, so disconnected the wires from the JB only to find they were not the other end...

Need advice with replacing old electrical terminal

Ok guys the carpet has been laid :( So I'm going to just replace the junction box and leave it under the floor. Though can anyone explain the wiring in this junction box? Why is one of the black wire (in blue tape on the left) left out and both the ground wires put in the screw instead? The...

Need advice with replacing old electrical terminal

so would these wires feed directly into a socket or terminal junction? Here is a pic I took under the floorboard in the room. Down the bottom is where the wire is fed through the gap in wall. You can see some sort of white thing down there. Does it look like something?

Need advice with replacing old electrical terminal

I just did a test with screwdriver. Read as live current, then switched off sockets on circuit breaker and the screwdriver didn't read anything. So definitely connected to plug sockets. It has to be via junction box no?
