    "Global warming" or Greed

Is the flooding really down to global warming? or is it down to the fact that more and more open land is being built on and tarmacked over? And the rain has nowhere to soak into the ground and has to run down the gutters. My last house and the whole street got flooded several times due to new...

    Replace shower head holder

You may have to undo a screw under the stand off and remove the rail like a plug, there must be a screw behind that to secure the stand off to the wall.

    German wiring

Presumably the lamps are screw fitting? if so use your meter and check between the centre contact and the wires, the one that shows a circuit is the live. The one that works from the side contact is the neutral and the one from the casing is the earth. Seemples

    double light switch wiring problem

In doing what you have you have created a short circuit which is what blew the fuse. The blacks were looped at the switch and are neutrals. The only way to operate the lights independently is to run a new cable from the second light in the circuit to the switch which will create a mess i would...

    Fitting new wall light

Just in case you have a bunch of duff bulbs, try swapping the lamps round using the known good one in each fitting in turn. If that does not work then re-check all connections. If that fails then go and see " That nice man at B and Q"

    Switched Live pls help

As you have noted the double brown is the switch wire. This is used by some electricians instead of brown/ blue in which case the blue would be sleeved, you can put either in the terminal.

    Sloping roof

It all depends on how much space you have between your ceiling and the underside of the main roof surface. You normally need a minimum of 9 inches.

    Fitting Outdoor Light Indoors

Without knowing what type of light the gf bought it is impossible to say exactly why, BUT there must be a very good reason. I would suggest taking it back and going with her to look for another(light that is) :)

1 Way Switch - Is this okay ?

It really does not matter which wires go in which terminals, BUT have you got the new plate earthed? A metal plate MUST be linked to the main earthing system, either direct to the cpc of the cable or by a link to the cpc via the terminal in the back box.

Hopefully that is a typo when you say neutrals connected to back box. :?

    Rejuvenating NiCad batteries ?

The only way to do a proper rejuvenation is to cycle them a couple of times by a total discharge followed by a full charge. But from the sound of it they are boll*xed. I had to replace mine a couple of years ago and found them at a firm in scotland (OEM). can't find the ref at the moment.

Another socket in the loft topic

It really sounds as if you have a right old can of worms on your hands. I, and probably the rest of the guys(and gals)on here would suggest getting an electrician in to sort it out.

CPC at plastic light switch and back box

If you do not have a terminal then that is the best way as long as you sleeve the cpc.

    Pir wiring confirmation

Why? You may find a need to override the pir and you cannot do that with no switch. As well as maintainance requirements.
