    VW Golf GT TDi Fan

The fan on that car is prone to faults, the control module for it is part of the fan itself, you need to get it to a garage with a copy of VCDS and have the fault codes read. Could also be the temperature sensor starting to fail, though it might be reading correctly on the gauge the needles...

    Is my plasterer cutting corners?

a few nails are going to make naff all difference to the strength of the corners. I've never done external rendering but if it's anything like internal plastering there is no set method, I've used all sorts from clout nails to grab adhesive to attach the beads, so long as they stay in...

    Dri Wall Adhesive

The Dri-Wall adhesive and waterproofer was a suggestion from someone else who claims it works but I was a bit dubious, certainly wouldn't want to do a room and fit it makes a weaker bond or similar. TM - So apply the dri-coat up to 1m, then D&D onto this using smaller dabs at the bottom? The...

    Dri Wall Adhesive

I've got a few walls I want to D&D boards to however efflorescence is showing low down in a few areas. Just wondering if adding a small amount of waterproofer to the dri wall max would help. The walls were not damp, the plaster was still firm (although blown) but in the odd place is traces...

    Noisy floors

I'm pulling down the ceilings in my lounge/dining room as part of some renovations and wonder if there is any way to stop the noise from the upper floors when people walk on them, they are carpeted but the noise is really loud downstairs. The max span is 4m, all floors are supported on...

    Just out of curiosity...

Interesting, cheers, probably was for some form of appliance as it stil had a bit of degrading rubber hose on the end of it, as I say though, worried me and my gas installer greatly hence it was removed along with all the other lead. Mysteryman - It's a 1972 2 Door GT with a Small Block Ford...

    Curving plasterboard

I have a front door set inside of an arched opening, this was the external wall/entrance to a porch so has never been plastered. I am wanting to D&D boards in this area which I am pretty comfortable with, the only issue is the reveal which has a curved profile to the top. I was going to...

    External render guarantee

I can see how having a guarentee would be desirable as a customer, but the terms seem to be more favourable to himself. I guess from his email he supplied all materials, if it was my job and I was not desperate for the money I have in the past told people like this to go f*ck themselves.

    Just out of curiosity...

Maybe, but in the cupboard under the stairs, 15 meters away from the nearest fire?

    Just out of curiosity...

It's long gone now. The valve was kind of like the type you would find in a school chemistry room for bunsen burners.

    Just out of curiosity...

..reading another post got me wondering. When I moved into my house I had the boiler and most of the gas pipework/plumbing changed almost immediately. Under the stairs was the old lead pipework from the meter to various appliances, but there was also a stub that went to a 90 degree valve...

    Copper Vs Plastic pipes

I prefer copper, think it looks neater, well, if its been installed well and not cobbled together with a million fittings. Plastic isn't too bad, my only gripe with it is the side of the fixings, though I suspect as time progresses the fixings will get smaller.

No, this is normal, all Polyfilla Villas are as well constructed as yours.

    Bad Rot On Window Frame

Paying a "joiner" to do the job will probably cost best part of what a new window costs. If you are seriously going to be replacing within the next two years I would just chisel out the worst of it, maybe replace the beading and slap some pain on it to protect it.

    Crimps what do you think

They are a valid method, however in my own home when modifying bits of wiring I have always opted to to replace the entire section of cable as it never feels right using them to me.

    Top Gears 3 wheeler test

Nobody wants to see a review of a Mondeo "LX" or the latest "styled with a pickaxe" Skoda. Granted the show is more about doing ridiculous things with ridiculous cars but it makes good viewing, if you don't like it you could always watch 5th gear......
