Siting/Location of Boiler in new installation

I haven't got one yet. I have a Builder sorted -but it will be a while before he starts. I will ask him when I see him, but at the moment I'm trying to get ideas of how the installation will be planned and it will give me an idea of how much all the materials will be.

    Renovating an old house

I do appreciate all the comments and I have sought advice from the odd builder friend by removing sections of the old plaster and demonstrating the condition of the internal 'brickwork' -which is decent for an old 1874 property, but the internal walls will require a sand and cement platform to...

    Renovating an old house

Yes, That makes sense....I should have known that the plaster bd' would have the insulation on it. This adds to my initial question on the estimate of applying sand/cement to all the internal walls. The second question then if any one can provide, an estimate approximately to insulate all the...

    Renovating an old house

I have got planning permission and had my drawings approved by the local council's Building Regulations dept. The drawings/regulations relate to mainly an extension that is also going to be built on the rear of the property and although they have been strong on the attic ceiling in the old house...

    Renovating an old house

Hello There, I'm just in the early stages of this project and I'm trying to work out a few estimates of cost for modifying a (very old) terraced house before the builder starts working on it. After I remove all the old plaster -from every internal wall, is there a rule of thumb for applying sand...

adding upvc mouldings to existing window

Sorry, I meant that I have had to fill in holes from the damage of the plaster which extended wider than the original upvc strips that were removed. I'm not painting over the new 28mm pvc strips.

adding upvc mouldings to existing window

Hello There, the upvc mouldings were coming away from a couple of windows and I have removed them to be replaced with similar 28mm wide strips around them. I'm having a senior moment however and having just filled in the holes that were left from pulling the old strips away and rubbed them down...

Wiring for a light/lantern on a brick pillar

:D Thanks for your comments Chaps, Yes the house has PME with a label on to prove it. The difficulty with installing a 13a socket in the porch (for the wife's Christmas tree) was that although it was to be sited two feet away from the 13a ringmain in the house, the concrete in the porch floor...

Hello There, I have built the garden pillar with a hollow pipe going down inside and room for a metal clad box in the 'top' below the brick capping slab. The intention was to run a Steel Wire Armoured cable from the lights metal jb inside the pillar -around to my porch which will have a metal...

Hello again fella's, Just to let all you know the outcome of all this .. :-) I removed every brick myself, cleaning them up as I dismantled. stacking them on a pallet in order from top down to bottom, separating the pillar from the wall bricks -because they were 'buff split' facing bricks...

Cost of rebuilding a small wall?

Maybe in the 19th hole 'old un 'mate!! This was a genuine request for some help...I thought that's what forums were for. I guess some people just have to try and insinuate things to make it more complicated!!! and less helpful.

Cost of rebuilding a small wall?

Thanks again noseall, my reply to you is below. Thanks, I appreciate that. I thought it would be about the £150 - £200 mark. The bricks will be fine to re-build the wall. In fact I'm gonna knock 'em all off, clean them up myself and stack 'em for now. Got no quotes as yet.

Cost of rebuilding a small wall?

No, Honest! I did not do it. straight away he offered to get it fixed of a fashion, but I wasn't too happy about who he was getting to do it -so I told him that I would sort it and bill him. I don't want to fall out with him, we've been neighbours for a long time. Cheers again.
