    Do I need planning permission?

Why? probably lack of confidence in my own abilities! I suspect I'm thinking far too much about this as usual!

    shelves (floating or near floating)

I have been given some lovely offcuts of wood, about 4cm thick, 9cm wide, various lengths. I'm planning on using them as shelves for jars (of pasta, cereals, flour, spices etc) in my "new" kitchen. Ideally I'd like to construct floating shelves, but I'm not too confident about how well I can...

    moving drains and pipes

Looking at extending downstairs and considering options. How much would it cost to move the manhole cover and downpipes (if that's possible)? We have one drain which takes water from the kitchen and bathroom and also the soil stack plus one manhole cover in the patio which I'm thinking about...

    Do I need planning permission?

right... option 2. demolish shed and build something within permitted development. Would we need some sort of planning permission or neighbour agreement to demolish the brick shed being it's left-hand wall is on the boundary line and (I think) next door is responsible for the fence on that...

    Do I need planning permission?

It just occurred to me, that it doesn't (I think) extend beyond the side of the house, because the front bedroom goes over the tunnel, so technically the shed is within the current width of the house. Although it does still go beyond the 3m allowance.

    electric sander

Could you recommend a good, mid-range sander please? I need one that is easy to use (I've never used one before), lightweight and uses replacement papers that are reasonably priced. I'll need it for sanding wood and taking varnish off furniture. And any tips for use would be really good...

    Do I need planning permission?

Is it the bit to the side that has to be less than half the width or the whole extension? Just thinking because neighbours across the road have built to the side and all the way across the back and it got approved. we can't build much to the side as we only have about 4ft there until the...

    internal wall insulation

Can't - it sits on the property boundary!

    internal wall insulation

Noseall - does the 125mm include timber behind it? The roof needs to be replaced anyway, so will get it properly insulated then. It won't be stand alone when I've finished with it! I'm just trying to work out how much space I will have inside it. Or indeed, whether there's enough room to make...

    internal wall insulation

Am planning on converting brick shed into utility room. The walls are a single layer of bricks. How much depth would internal wall insulation take up, including anything that needs to go behind to fix it to the walls? I don't know if this affects it or if there are any building regs about...

    Do I need planning permission?

I'm planning a small kitchen extension which will connect our existing kitchen to the (currently stand-alone) brick-built shed. The extension will go to the maximum of 3 metres, which I understand can be done without permission. But the brick shed goes beyond the 3-metre allowance. I would also...
