Daunting task ahead - which paint please?

Daunting task ahead - which paint please?

Are you saying "use warm soapy water and sand at the same time??" Based on other stuff I have read here, do I only need a light sand as I want to keep the knotting agent in place? There is low natural light in the hallway, doors and skirting have yellowed over the years. What would the...

Daunting task ahead - which paint please?

Am about to embark on sanding down my stained stair handrail and spindles. I have read much advice on this site but hoping saomeone can give me a good suggestion for my particular case. 12 years ago the spindles were new and had Crown Trade WoodStain Finishcoat which I am assuming is oil...

    Cavity closure problem (with picture)

Actually I was thinking of cutting down a sheet of celotex and jamming this in the gap just below the slate - will that do it??

    Cavity closure problem (with picture)

Yes, cavity is deep and 7m long. Simon may have provided the answer, but I guess I was suggesting slate instead of concrete - so is there still a need for insulation and am I creating a cold bridge with my solution?

    Cavity closure problem (with picture)

I think the area is too large for dpm + concrete. I may have to go for slate again OR I could buy a rigid pvc cavity closure and add slate on top. Also, when I removed the old screed, I noticed they had trapped some celotex between the skins just below the slate. Should I do this again?

    Cavity closure problem (with picture)

I think given the cracking already taken place in the screed (remembering this is a heavy use walkway), the bridge has to be solid. Hence slate/creasing tiles. I looked at the rigid pvc cavity closure but even that had some give.

    Cavity closure problem (with picture)

Hi, have had an extension with bi-fold doors. The main floor was screeded first but as the doors went in afterwards and sit lower than the screed they were not able to screed up to the doors at the time. Now I have an open cavity, they have unsuccessfully tried twice to fill the cavity and...

Warm roof - How to insulate an stud upstand for rooflights?

Your right... I'll try again... UK weather single ply 20mm cladded deck (OSB) 70mm timber stud with voids infilled with insulation foil backed plasterboard air inside house The reason to avoid the insulation on the outside of the OSB is cost, that is cost of rooflight getting...

Warm roof - How to insulate an stud upstand for rooflights?

I probably did not explain well. From outside to inside on the upstand... UK weather single ply vcl 20mm cladded deck (OSB) 70mm timber stud with voids infilled with insulation foil backed plasterboard air inside house

Warm roof - How to insulate an stud upstand for rooflights?

OK, will get the void completely filled. On the main deck there will be vcl, insulation then single ply membrane. On the cladded upstand there will not be any insulation, just a VCL and then single ply membrane. So I guess again it is neither cold nor warm but hopefully not a condensation...

Warm roof - How to insulate an stud upstand for rooflights?

The cross section drawing is exactly what we have. What I was hoping to learn is maybe what would be the best insulation to put in that upstand void and if I may be prone to condensation problems at all given if it is filled up there will be no void for air and hence it is neither a warm or...

Warm roof - How to insulate an stud upstand for rooflights?

Hi, we have just built a 'hybrid' roof, 40mm insulation below deck and 80mm insulation above deck on a flat roof with waterproof singe ply membrane on top. In the roof are two rooflights with 400mm upstands from joist level. These are made of stud work, cladded on the outside with OSB leaving...

Minimise height of flat roof design - Help!

Now thinking about a warm roof but with 40mm insulation in the joists (at the top) and 80mm on top of the ply deck. I assume this is still called a warm roof? Anyone had any experiences with this design?

Minimise height of flat roof design - Help!

Thanks for your reply. To answer some points... Actually it is a parapet wall similar to below image. So thinking some air bricks on the sides with different height battons on top of and opposite to joist direction (the joists runs the 3m length) to create the fall and also create an air gap...

Minimise height of flat roof design - Help!

We are adding a single storey 3m x 8m extension with flat (warm) roof to the back of our house. 7m of the 8m will be bi-fold doors. We are also adding 2 x large rooflights. We want to minimise the internal wall height of the rooflight upstand, at the moment this is 610 mm (12mm plasterboard...

Can I replace these taps handles?

They were lovely (possibly) at one time. Anyway, any other opinions/advice before I attempt to take apart my first ever tap?

Can I replace these taps handles?

Hi, have searched for a replacement shower mixer for the below, but it seems it is a strange size, the centres are 160mm, therefore will just be happy if I can revive them! I don't know what brand they are but they might be armitage/bristan but there is no logo to give anything away. Does...
