Dulux Vinyl Matt on new plaster

Previously I've always used cheap emulsion water down as mist coat on new plaster. Today I tried trade vinyl matt (watered down 5:1) and it went on a treat. However, just come online and keep reading that vinyl matt shouldn't be used as the first coat...why exactly? One room we've done...

    Floor Screed over plywood?

I'm trying to level a kitchen floor, half is floorboard over joist and the other half is asphalt on top of concrete. Plan was to plywood the wood half and use self levelling screed to level the concrete half up to the plywood. Problem is levelling the wood half is proving very hard. So...

    Hairline cracks on joins

It's a 60s build.... Walls were brick, I dampened them down prior to drywall to stop them sucking up too much moisture. Boarding was done day or 2 before skimming. I can't see there being any movement in this wall TBH. Ceiling was overboarded by me, no one's being walking in the room...

    Hairline cracks on joins

Cracks are on both wall and ceiling, they're only tiny cracks. 12.5 boards, close butted, plenty of adhesive around edges, used dry wall adhesive from b&q, gyproc I think. It wasn't force dried, the only thing I can is it's dried out too quick in the warm weather.

    Hairline cracks on joins

Just had a couple rooms plastered a month or so ago (skim coat over dot/dab plasterboard + boarded ceilings) I can see some hairline cracks where the joints in the boards are. All joints were mesh taped prior to skimming by the plasterer. Dried out too quick perhaps?? would you try and...

Dry lining & insulating solid walls

I'm planning to dry line(using battens) and insulate the external solid walls in my house. House is old, bricks are knackered and not at all level. Problem is knowing the most efficient, cost effective method. There seems to be a couple of ways. 1. Batten out with 3x2", insulate between...

    Bathroom fan wiring mystery

Why are you here, serious question? Just seems like you repeat the same boring reply to every person who asks a question, and you could say everyone who asks a question isn't 100% sure in what they're doing or they wouldn't be here on a DIY electrics forum asking a question in the first...

    Bathroom fan wiring mystery

Thanks chaps, will try that tomorrow. Gonna make the landing switch a 2G and take a 2 core from the FCU across and then bring a 3 core down from the fan to the new switch as described.

    Bathroom fan wiring mystery

At the moment the FCU is outside the bathroom door right next to the landing light switch. Adding another switch on the wall there is just gonna look too much imo as the wall space is only small. Would a 3 pole fan switch help me out in any way?

    Bathroom fan wiring mystery

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try that. The fan is a CFD200T Manrose btw. The thing is, the fcu is in the position where we want the fan switch to be(outside the bathroom door)....adding a new switch when the FCU already has a switch seems like one switch too many? Is there anyway to...

    Plastering over steel cavity lintel

Are these type of lintels usually bricked up? or packed out with wood and then boarded/meshed? Walls are to be eventually bonded, then skimmed. I'm not doing the plastering but will be getting the walls ready for the plasterer.
