    not if it a catnic branded one you cant, they have a plate on both ends if you cut these off you risk the lintol spreading which will then sag.

    i would say that on a 3m opening you would need a 3.6, as a 150 end bearing is not enough on a 3m span. go for catnic style then no calcs needed as they are done by the manufacturer

    just drop a clay chimney cowl on top of the pot, these just give enough ventalation to stop any damp. then block off above your new fire with a wooden board backed with insulation, make sure this board can be removed easily as you will still get some old soot falling for some time

    make sure you get a core bit with plenty of diamond on it, don't let them fob you off with a badly worn one

    you get everything you need, when you have started the hole and got the core bit in about 5mm you take the guide bit out of the middle, this will then make it a lot quicker, drill from the inside ,once through the block take it out and remove what is inside the bit and start the process...
