Hi roy
I got some pics today. Im replacing the wood and im going to sort this out after the wood has gone back up.
The stuff that's left up there is prity solid and hard to break off
The plaster in my whole house which im doing up is in poor condition. Some of it has popper off the wall but most of it sounds hollow when you tap it with your knuckles.
If i hit it with a hammer a patch about the size of my hand will pop off the wall fairly easily.
Do I need to remove...
Hi
Ive got some pebble dash I need to repair on my house.
Whats the best way to tackle this? Ive added some pictures below which shows it pritty well. If anyone could give me a nod in the right direction that would be great.

Hi tony. Yes mate its all going though building control and ive sent them the plans for the load bearing wall and gallow brackets. There happy and have told me to crack on and tell them when its done (before its plastered) for them to check it out.
Yep you've lost me. Would you mind explaining what you mean or the point your trying to put across?
For example. Your trying to tell me Im not capable and to get a builder in?
Im endangering my neighbour's life?
I should trust my structural engineer and install the gallow...
One more thing.
My chimney goes from 2 into one above the ceiling. So 2 stacks in separate rooms which join together in the loft space into one big chimney which goes out of the roof.
Im only removing one of these chimney breasts so the rest of the main chimney in the loft will be half...
Just a quick one. I think this is fine but i thought id double check.
On one of my padstones ive installed I haven't managed to get it 100% level with the RSJ.
Im going to tap some slate in to take up that gap at the front.
Does it look acceptable?
Ive read the first 2 pages from the search engine and it doesn't answer my question.
The other reason I think I don't need to support with acros / strong boys is because ive read countless posts and storys of chimney breasts that have been removed and not supported at all in the loft...
Ive had a structural engineer do calculations and design me the correct gallows brackets and lintel to support the remaining chimney breast??
I will search. Although in the time it took you to write that you could have said that you need to support it with acros and strong boys or no you...
I'm removing my chimney breast from ground up into my loft. Ive had a engineer design me gallow brackets to support the remaining chimney breast in the loft.
Do I need to support the chimney above while I remove enough brickwork to install the gallow brackets and lintel?
Or is it ok to...
No walls have been removed and no stuts have been removed. Although walls are been removed
All the houses are the same and they are all constructed in the same way.
You are all correct the ceiling joists don't attach to the joists. This i how it was built in the first place and it can't...
the hole thing is a bit naught and bodged together.
The roof has spread and pushed 2 rows of bricks out along the back of the house.
Im trying to weight up between have the hole thing repaired / bodged up. I can find around 8 different things that need doing to it including the...
Do you think it would be possible to make a good improvement to this sag?
Buy using acro props/ car jacks onto the ridge line.
I don't want to damage the roof in the process
sweet Im happy with that. where the set square is is the same face the RSJ will be sitting ontop of. Thought it seemed abit doggy for the RSJ to be sitting at a slightly doggy angle.
Thank you for clearing that up for me
