Dylux Weathershield - how many coats

Looking at the long range forecast, I think the weather is going to have the deciding vote on this one. :(

Dylux Weathershield - how many coats

I've just finished painting the pebbledash rendering of my house with Dulux Weathershield. The instructions recommend 2 coats, which is what I have given it, but the first coat was thinned by about 20% as the original surface was very porous. Can I include this as one of the coats or does it...

    International gutter paint

Having repainted the outside walls and woodwork of my cottage, the black PVC gutter and downpipes now look a bit shabby by comparison. I was thinking of tarting them up a bit with a coat of International gutter paint. Does this stuff give a good finish or will they end up looking like a bit of...

    External lagging

During the cold snap earlier this year the external waste water pipe from my combi boiler froze causing the boiler to stop working. The solution was fairly simple. I used a hair dryer to gently thaw it out and then covered it with an adapted piece of hot water tank lagging. This worked fine and...

    Boiler flue

I have a Worcester Bosch combi boiler mounted in a cupboard in an upstairs room. The flue pipe runs directly through the outside wall and on the outside has a rubber collar presumably to help seal the hole in the wall. As the wall is pebble dashed the collar does not sit completely flat and also...

    Painting external render

A power washer did the trick. Took about nine hours in total to clear the wall completely, and at 10 litres a minute I'm very glad I don't have a water meter. I was a little concerned about how easily the washer removed the test patches of Sandtex masonry paint. However these had been applied...

    Slate tile replacement

Basingstoke area. I opted for man made cement tiles as a temporary measure because the area that needed replacement isn't really visable and the whole roof will probably need doing in five years or so. Cutting them was fairly straightfoward. I scored them heavily along the cutting point then...

    Painting external render

Thanks for the reply. I managed to scrub about 90-95% of the algae off with a stiff brush (took about 2 days). However a fungicidal wash has made no difference to the remaining bits. As it will be impossible to get rid of all of it will it cause any problems if I paint over the remainder.

    External render paint

I am about to paint the pebbledash rendering on the gable side of my 1820s end of terrace cottage. I am considering using the Dulux Weathershield Back Pack Roller system which uses battery power to pump paint to the roller. Does anyone have experience of using this? Does it actually work or is...

    Slate tile replacement

Thanks for the suggestions. The local reclaim yard has come up blank so I guess I'm cutting down a couple of 12x24s. Do I need any special equipment for this, or can I just score them and snap them like wall tiles.

    Painting external render

I am currently repainting the exterior of my 1820 end of terrace cottage. At some point in the past the exterior was rendered and the front painted white but the side gable end was not painted. I am now looking to paint this render as it now looks very dull and scruffy. I am planning to use a...

    Slate tile replacement

While repainting the facias of my 200 year old cottage I have discovered that a couple of roof tiles are broken and need replacing. Removing and replacing them seems to be a fairly staightforward job but the main problem is finding replacement slates. The size of the slates is 11 x 22 inch and a...
