    Garage Conversion Floor Height?

Hi guys, We're having our integrated garage converted into a room which we're planning to carpet. I've just noticed that the new chipboard floor has been brought level with the hallway floor. Is this right / standard? Will it allow underlay and carpet to be fitted without a really high...

Insulating a single skin wall - block or timber/batten?

Hi guys, My question is - which is best for heat conservation and sound when turning a garage with a single-skin wall into a room? Blocks or timber & insulation? The builder we've commissioned is recommending framing it and using kingspan, then plasterboarding & skimming. Some builders...

    'Buried' Consumer Unit (...?)

That's a fair point - I didn't realise you could get flush mounted units, all the ones I've ever seen are surface mounted. I'd assume if it's all be signed off by planning/building-regs - and if they have the certificates/docs - that it would all be OK, surely? (I'm assuming that work like...

    'Buried' Consumer Unit (...?)

The other side of the wall to the unit (their original position) - it's an external wall.

    'Buried' Consumer Unit (...?)

Hi guys, I'd really appreciate your input on this! We viewed a property tonight and it looks OK - needs fair bit of work, but that's fine. It had an integrated garage, which has been converted into a family room (boarded out, door bricked up and window put in, door put in from main...

Large Wooden Box In Loft? (How Water Cylinder?)

I don't think there's been any form of heat/air based system (there's no sign of it in any of the rooms). I'm fairly sure the flue is for the combi-boiler that's on the 2nd floor and simply vents via that flue. I'll be trying to arrange a time with the vendor to get a closer look - last...

Large Wooden Box In Loft? (How Water Cylinder?)

Hi guys, We're currently in the process of buying a property which is about 25 years old. I popped my head into the loft today to check the general condition - whether it was boarded out, etc. I noticed a huge box right in the middle of the main loft cavity. I'm assuming that this is a...

Replace Myson CP53 with Grundfoss 15/50?

By saying it was a straight forward replacement, I meant that I encountered no problems (e.g. stuck isolation valves, etc). Size and pressure/flow of pumps do vary - so it's worth highlighting that the Grundfos in that model is a direct swap, no size differences, alignment issues, etc.

Replace Myson CP53 with Grundfoss 15/50?

Grundfos works really well, straight swap for the old pump. Before swapping it out I drained the system, refilled and added some Fernox F3, ran it around for a few days, drained, refilled and drained the system again to flush it out a bit. Finally refilled and added Fernox F1. I ran the F3...

    going wireless

Wireless router = probably free from ISP Wired home plugs = £30 to £80. Performance depends on house wiring, can also perform poorly depending on appliances used in house. Plus, there's no need for them unless you're paranoid about wireless signals or have really thick walls ;) They won't...

Where to buy steel 6mm thread radiator bleed valves?

True - fair point indeed. Might have to just buy a fair few brass fittings and replace them as-and-when. If they snap, they snap :) Cheers

    damaged my screen

Yep, sounds b0rked. New screens are fairly cheap now, try Aria or Ebuyer. When you've got a new screen, you can try 'massaging' the screen to try and get it back again - although this rarely works, and you usually end up breaking the screen even more :)

    going wireless

It's not unfortunately (or at least it isn't with my Sony, unless they've changed it recently). This is another way the TV manufacturers make their money :-/ Rather than buying a PCI network adapter, but a USB expansion card with another 4 slots in it. The buy a USB wireless adapter...

Where to buy steel 6mm thread radiator bleed valves?

Because a steel version shouldn't snap as easily (or at all!) :) As the vent is so small, the 'stem' is tiny, so when you have to apply a little bit of force to undo the valve - they sometimes snap (as they're tiny). We've already had two snap over the past 18 months (replaced with steel...

    going wireless

When you say "bt leads" do you mean *phone line* leads, or networking cable(RJ45)? Sounds to me like you're talking about actual phone line extension cable. In this case, you can probably use something like you've mentioned - mains based telephone line extenders, like this one...

    Router question

Thats a bit odd and shouldn't work in theory... TalkTalk is owned by Carphone Warehouse. BT is...well just BT. For your router(s) to get online, they'll have to give a username and password to your ISP (BT/TalkTalk). So a BT homehub won't be able to "talk" to TalkTalk and vice-versa...
