Best way to grow a privet hedge?

You should let them grow to about a foot taller than the final height you want then cut them to the height you want. If you cut back the main stem too soon you will have more bush than height.

    Post hole borer

I have been erecting a panel fence over the last few months alongside an established Leylandii hedge (doing a couple of panels a month to spread the cost). I have been using metposts to take the 3"x3" posts but now I am getting to the older trees and the roots are preventing the metposts from...

Does it hurt when the umbilical is cut?

I saw a TV programme a few years ago where Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall made various dishes from a placenta. The woman who had given birth invited her friends to partake of the food and they also planted a tree to celebrate the birth of the child. They even managed to get a vegetarian to eat some...

    SMOKING BANNED

I agree with AdamW's point that smoking is not pleasurable - I am amazed as to why people do it. I tried it many years ago and once was enough to put me off.

    SMOKING BANNED

Laws need to be examined for content and effect so it takes time to ensure they are workable and enforceable. Look at the laws which have been rushed through then have to be re-worked as they are full of holes, better to get it right first - the other thing is there are other laws being...

    Bad police drivers

This is from a police driving instructor: The training for the panda car drivers depends on the job of the driver e.g. PC, community support, tranffic warden, etc. For those who are not police officers this consists of a one hour assessment of the driver. The police officer's course is to an...

WHERE WERE THE MUSLIMS COUNCIL FOR BRITAIN

Seems a fair question to ask and a good point made that there would be objectors to a BNP march. I remember a National Front march in Oxford years ago, a load of locals (white, black, brown) turned up to kick the cr*p out of the NF lot.

    Differences in UK and US........

Fighting never really ended. After claiming the English throne, William I still fought to maintain his territories in Normandy & France and that was continued throughout the centuries by his successors.

That might be so but written word was in Latin for many centuries after tha time, English as written word had yet to develop.

    Differences in UK and US........

I'm pretty sure that this is how the words were also spelled in GB at that time. The 'u' came about later through influences from French language, so the US way of spelling is closer to the original than the current 'English' spellings.
