    Corgi Reg.

Has anyone got any experience of becoming Corgi reg to work on domestic gas installations? I'd like to become registered but do not have relevant experience and am self employed ie unable to have "on the job" training? The various web sites I have visited seem to make it deliberatly difficult to...

    DeWalt

if its your living then tools are very important. I use a DeWalt 18v drill and a 12v driver every single day and they earn my living with me - not much I can add to that....

    Leaking Tap under bath

if it only happens when switched to the shower and is definitley not a leaking connection between the tap and copper supply pipe then the tap must be faulty

    wall mounted bath taps

you can buy an excellent plate from good plumbers merchants. designed for showers it will do exactly what you want and save a lot of hassle. Bristan manufacture it. Even comes with chrome pipe clips which hide your holes in tiles etc. Copper pipe to the plate inside the wall though!

    Replumbing a toilet cistern

Sounds about right but why drill a new hole in thye cistern? If you use a torbeck valve you should ber able to use either lh or rh handles. Regulations say you should fit a service valve anyway. Some flexible connectors have integral ones making the job easier and neater. Good luck

    Replumbing a toilet cistern

Shortening the pipe is straightforward, the connection at the cistern is normally just a push fit. Any good plumbers merchant will sell you an internal overflow syphon - but I would take your old one in some of them have restricted space at the bottom of the cistern. If there is no overflow...

    text book

Can anyone recommend a good text book on plumbing and heating? Most seem too basic. I need one which will cover all the topics a pro would know. Don't worry I have no intention of touching gas appliances but I often get asked to move rads and do similar work. Thanks in advance.

    Sulphuric Acid

Hi all, I have a 32mm waste pipe which is vitually blocked with soft deposits (I cut it to move the sink). The pipe goes under the floor and I dont want to replace it if I dont have to. Can anyone recommend the best substance for clearing it once the new sink is connected? There wasn't a...

    Toilet refill

don't forget the overflow must be able to take the full flow of water so if you end up with a toilet that fills in 10 seconds you may also have a flooded room if your valve fails - easy to test tho, just hold down the float and watch the overflow work.

    bathroom fitting costs

someone once said if something feels too cheap it probably is.... if you want a pro (you know the type, insured, taxpayer, competent etc) to come along and do a proper job of replacinga bathroom you are looking at £150 a day, and a typical job will take between 5 and 15 days depending on the...

    Thermostatic Shower

I'm not a qualified plumber but I suspect the existing pipework was put in before the combi. All the new combi systems I have worked on utilise only 15mm pipework as the flow doesnt require any more capacity. As long as you have followed all the other instructions I suspect you will be fine...

    Attaching a hand rinse

I normally hate to be defeatist but it sounds like this is a job for a pro or an experienced DIY with the right tools... no doubt someone will disagree but a double granite sink sounds expensive

    Thermostatic Shower

I've just fitted one to a combi system and despite being roughly equal pressures the instructions had me fit a (supplied) flow limiter in the cold inlet. The shower works really well. In fact the whole bathroom looks fabulous...... :D

    Air in Towel Rad

just re-read its a combi - not vented then so no vent pipe - sorry. You can do a small test on the air you take out of the rads. Hold an upturned tumbler over the bleed valve during bleeding and try and light the gas... if it lights its corrosion I think. There are lots of threads here if...

Cost of fitting a kitchen worktop

I have to say I liked it too I was thinking of putting the pic in my portfolio 8)

    Air in Towel Rad

I might be corrected but the air in the system has to come from somewhere, it might be coming in from a leaky valve somewhere (you would expect to see a wet carpet) or being sucked in from a vent pipe or it might be gas created by corrosion, I think you need to look for some more clues
