    Pipe Freezing Kits

Can anyone offer some words of wisdom with regard to the pipe freezing kits on the market? I'm thinking of buying them to do small jobs like rad valve changes but feel a little sceptical...

    Bathroom Extractor Fan Dilemma

To prove it I have just worked in a bathroom and sure enough the "earth" wire to the fan was in fact the live wire!

    Myson Apollo Problem

I've only ever noticed it in the morning first thing, the pump does make a "swishing" noise when it comes on in the morning - I always thought it sounded like it was pushing a little bit of air around. It is a new problem which seemed to start suddenly and nothing has been changed for quite some...

    Myson Apollo Problem

Appreciate the explanation. Thanks. Would you expect that problem to be intermittent? Is it worth changing the stats to diagnose before calling in the pro's?

    extending a shower cable

I thought I might get a reply like that - I was actually just trying to answer the question and explain some reasons why switches burn out. This picture might be of interest - I took it just before Christmas - from the outside there was no obvious problems as the CU was mounted quite high...

    extending a shower cable

burnt out switches can be caused by loose connections (which is why all installations should be checked on a regular basis). The other thing you can do to avoid that is to switch the shower on at the shower rather than the switch. Switching that kind of current can cause arcing at the contacts...

    Myson Apollo Problem

I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my 12 yr old Myson Apollo boiler. Standard setup with rads and a tank. The problem is best described as a loud expansion like "ticking" noise about once a week when the thermostat is set to high. If I set it to low the boiler just cycles every 15 to 20 secs...

    Cooker Amperage

I'm trying to answer a simple question! In the market for a new electric cooker I note that some are advertised as 13A and some 30A. Clearly this is their current rating and a guide to the type of cabling required but they look very similar? Am I missing something? Thanks

    Onyx Tap

Probably very easy but I need to remove the head from a tap and it looks very fragile - onyx type - do I just use force or is their a technique for removing the head. Thanks in anticipation

    Macerator

I've repaired one after it became blocked. The problem seemed to be the length of the pipe run. This one went up vertically for about 3m (the max allowed with this model) and then a torturous journey accross a loft space. My advice wouls be to limit the vertical run if you can and keep the...

    Fire!

I have just discovered a nasty problem on the electrical installation of a old cottage my partner recently bought, on the E7 Consumer Unit inside the main 100A isolator was very very badly burnt and lots of melted plastic suurounded it. The CU is in a cupboard under the stairs and from the...
