Filling large holes in a wooden door

6830X (Screwfix) if you're using a gun for your silicone, sealant,v filler, etc, these are bloody excellent screw-on caps which mean you can reuse the same tube for days/weeks without waste or the nozzle drying out. (I used to use nails but they weren't airtight.) ( I may pull all of these...

Filling large holes in a wooden door

98277 (Toolstation, but Screwfix do similar) is a really useful set of filler knives in different sizes. £2.25. Sorry - bit of a newbie to this and this is all the gear I've found invaluable. Renovated two doors and door frames in the last six weeks or so. Watched a LOT of the Painting and...

Filling large holes in a wooden door

BTW, the Everbuild Wood Filler 55602 from Toolstation (Howdens have it also if you have a friendly place near you) is perfectly adequate for loads of holes. Ready mixed, one pot, I have got it all over me (not recommended, but it happens) and not reacted. Buy a mask while you're there - if you...

Filling large holes in a wooden door

This is a useful tip which I've used a few times - from around 2:38 - hammering splinters of wood into screw holes. It strengthens the area, cuts down on filling time, and lessen the chance of filler sinking. (I'm aware that I link to their videos quite a bit, but they are really useful, and...

Urgent - Advice needed on job

IMO as a DIYer: Yes, yes. Yes. Tanking? Yes. If you're paying for it. What did they quote you for? Ideally, the tray should fit, then tiling cover the join. Finding trays which are the right size can often be tricky.though. Silicone will fail and foam will get waterlogged. Is that shower...

    carpet and skirting board painting

I bought one of these the other day and it proved pretty useful for a similar job, and others since. A scraper may come in handy too. https://www.toolstation.com/prep-premier-heavy-duty-multi-tool-scraper/p22287

Osmo country colour & WR basecoat

Ronseal fence stains/paints are renowned for washing off. The water doesn't bead so I don't think they have wax in, certainly not like the Cuprinol Ducksback (which is only for rough sawn) or Garden Shades. Both of which stick properly if used appropriately, IME. Garden paints generally are...

Osmo country colour & WR basecoat

A chippy friend who specialises in outdoor stuff swears by Osmo. The reviews are excellent too. Is it worth it? Depends how expensive your furniture is. What else have you considered? I painted my veranda in Cuprinol Shades garden paint (water based with wax added) two years ago and it still...

    blue passports are disappointing

(Not clicking on the link as the Express is almost as bad as the Heil.) Are these the ones made by the French company that the Tories awarded the contract to? That looks worse than the old passports (which were black, BTW. Plus, we could have had any passport colour we wanted in the EU ).

Wife and son painted decking with fence stain

First, please hug them for me. I can imagine how proud they must have been. I hope you managed to hide your disappointment? Possible diplomatic solution: have a pressure washer (or hose and stiff brush) at hand, send them out on errands when heavy rain is forecast (in the next few days here)...

Glazing putty problem - gone gooey.

Uh oh. As per the thread I posted yesterday, I have Flexistrip to do a hardwood door. Luckily, it's north-facing, but still... I really don't want to have to use silicone too. Is there anything else I can do on installation to stop/minimise the melt please? Has anyone used the foam (dry...

    New fridge sticking out

I'm confused. Standard depth is 60cm, which is what your cabinets appear to be if your current fridge is 61cm. Your tape measure is either not at the back wall or you're not using it correctly, as that shows 51cm. (I had a quick look on the Currys site and there were plenty of refrigerators on...

Yeah, I suspected that sounded too easy to be a viable option.

What did Winston churchill do that was so wrong

That's a good point - acceptable to those who weren't being persecuted. Those who were didn't have a voice, or their experiences have been whitewashed (literally) out of history. There WERE people at the time saying he was as bad as Hitler, but they just weren't listened to. There were people...

What did Winston churchill do that was so wrong

Also, his part in Wales and damaging the Welsh economy: 'She encountered “a sense that he was the right person at the right time when it came to World War Two but essentially not a good man”.' https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/towns-wales-were-churchill-loathed-14150135

What did Winston churchill do that was so wrong

If you want both views and actions, and actually want to find out why he is considered a 'genocidal maniac', this is a pretty good link, with quotes and details of the persecutions directly inflicted under his command: https://medium.com/@write_12958/the-crimes-of-winston-churchill-c5e3ecb229b3...

Staining, weather bars & glazing a hardwood door

This is my current project: a hardwood door from the '60s/'70s. I've been reading posts and watching videos, but there are a few things I haven't been able to figure out yet: - wood & colour - the weather bar position - glazing details. It weighs an utter b*stard tonne. A friend thought it was...

    Rat & Mice problems

So there's empty space - void areas - behind the lattice? Following as I'm in a similar situation: A surveyor friend once said that she'd never come across decking & similar structures which hadn't been invaded by rodents, especially in urban areas. They are often a massive health hazard that...

    Restore or replace Grout?

I used Cif Perfect Shine Mould Remover a couple of months ago on a very similar mouldy shower & it brought it up very well. It needs VERY good ventilation though - I mistakenly left it on several hours, and two weeks later, the bathroom still whiffed. The floor still has a line where I missed...

    carpet and skirting board painting

Saw a tip on the old tip thread that parcel tape (the brown stuff) works really well as masking tape for carpet when you're doing skirting boards as you can push the carpet down/away more. Not tried it yet though.
