sounds like a problem with the brake servo or air in the system. When I changed the pads on my corsa it took a day or two for the pads to bed in and the pedal to return to normal

there are sidelights at the front. If I remember they are on a bulbholder that comes off with a quarter turn from the main headlight unit. the speedo cable fits into the gearbox at the back of the box and is quite accessible from the top. Check the inner cable isn't broken.

the grub screws only cover the spring clips. You will need to get pins to push itno the holes to release the spring clips, similiar to a normal stereo removal It can be done with four nails once they are inserted into the holes a little sideways pressure will release the clips then just pull it out.
