    Garage conversion-new floor detail

I have excavated the old garage floor as the area is going to become a habitable space and I have some queries. I have layed some type1 mot (100mm) and compacted with a wacker, on top of this I am about to lay a thin layer of building sand (10mm). I have 100mm insulation boards to go in...

    Wiring query

I need to move my consumer unit to an opposite wall as the wall it's on is going to be demolished and therefore I need to extend all the rings and radials. An electrician said the best thing to do would be to put a bank of junction boxes within the ceiling void with a trap door. Here's the...

    Rewiring a kitchen

Can anyone advise if this will meet building regs? Create a ring main with 2.5mm cable to supply five double power points above the worktop and spur off to dp power points below the worktop for a dishwasher washing machine and tumble dryer to plug in? Will also run a length of 6mm for the...

    Cable size

Thanks for the quick reply. Rewiring a kitchen, was going to go for a simple ring main with fused spurs for the appliances or is that not necassary i.e. just spur off with power points? and a 6mm supply for the built-in cooker. Plus extend the groundfloor lighting radial to add some sunken...

Am I right in thinking that 2.5mm is still the required size for power and 1mm for lighting?

Is this quote too much? (re-laying of a concrete floor)

One more thing, well two actually! Will need to run a gas supply under the floor for a hob in a central island and also power for said hob and a couple of other appliances (fridge & freezer). Should I just run a length of copper say 15mm for the gas supply within the floor once I get to...

Just been reading up on excavating as will be doing my own floor preparations for garage conversion. Does this sound ok or is there a better way? Excavate and lay and compact 100mm of MOT then 5mm sand then 90mm celotex/kingspan? then dpm then concrete depth?? then screed 75mm. Any...

    Footings Garage opening infill

I have started excavating my footings where my garage door is (window and 15 courses of bricks replacing door) in readiness for the building inspector. I have found out that the house sits on 8" footings, however a couple of people have told me the BI will want a1M footing for the infill. I have...
