    Woodburner smelling!

Hi Had a new woodburner and new flue fitted about 4 weeks ago- it's great except when it's been burning for about an hour it starts to give off a really strong unpleasant chemical/painty smell- it's definately not a wood or smoke smell, it's got to the stage where we're a bit scared to use it...

Best treatment for old stripped wooden doors

Hi Could anyone recommend what we should use on our wooden doors to finish them- they were put in the the 1920's and now we've moved in we have had them dipped. What would be the best thing to put on them now so the wood is nourished? We don't want a glossy varnish on them, but want something...

Converting a single bed to a loft/cabin bed

Could anyone suggest the safest but easiest way to convert a child's single pine bed into one of those cabin/loft type beds? I'm sure it can't just be a matter of fixing wood stilts to the beds legs- could anyone suggest if it is possible? If so, what type and thickness of wood should we use...

    Best quality indoor emulsion??

Hi all- could you please recommend a really good quality indoor emulsion for using on plastered walls? Made the mistake of using B&Q own brand last time and had to do about 3 coats... not fun when it's hall, stairs and landing! Cheers :)

    Peeling paint on new plaster

I consider myself well and truly told off Third Eye! Us mere mortals choose our paint by the colour rather than the make which is why we chose B&Q stuff, which incidentally isn't that cheap anyway! I will try using a proper sealing paint now! Thank you!

    Peeling paint on new plaster

If this is the case, what do I need to do to make the paint 'stick' to the wall, should I (or get hubby to) sand the area down first? The instructions on the B&Q paint recommended using their new plaster paint on new plasterwork first, but the plasterer told us watered down emulsion would be ok...

    Peeling paint on new plaster

Hi again- the plaster was very smooth in that area- it was a corner at the top of the stairs and was dry. It was only after we put the top coat on that the paint peeled away (the B&Q stuff) and it hasn't happenned in any other place. If you rub your finger on the plaster it leaves a powdery mark...

    Peeling paint on new plaster

Hi- the first coat was half water and half Trade Vinyl Matt made by SigmaKalon, then another coat of just paint, then a coat of B&Q Colours Matt

    Peeling paint on new plaster

Hi- we had our hall, stairs and landing plastered over a month ago. We painted the whole lot with watered down white matt paint then left to dry. We then painted with B&Q own brand matt coloured paint, but the next day one area had peeled away- does anyone know why and what we can do to stop it...

Worcester 9.24 electronic problem part 2!!!

Cheeky, I am a girl!!!!! Banging the area by the programmer- the door covering the controls springs back quickly when you close it and that's enough to make it work. Programmer turns heating off ok, just doesn't go on without a bump!

Worcester 9.24 electronic problem part 2!!!

Hi all again- if you've read my earlier 9.24 problem, have wired the boiler back to the old Programmer and now we have heating and water again BUT now back to the original problem. Water is working fine, heating also fine when it goes on but the only way we can get it to go on is to bang the...

    Worcester 9.24 Electronic

Firstly thank you all for your advice so far. I'll tel you the full story of the problem we've had. It's a 15 year old Worcester 9.24 Electronic combi boiler with a fitted timer/programmer. There was no problem at all with the water, but even though the light was coming on to indicate that the...

    Worcester 9.24 Electronic

Th reason I'm asking is that I need a new programmer. Ours topped working and my cousin fitted a Switchmaster SM300, but that only operates the heating- we have no hot water- I considered the Switchmaster SM400 but can't run water and heating independently so am thinking about the Switchmaster...

    Condensation- big problem

So I should a. Get vents fitted. Should there be vents at the top and the bottom of the roof? b. Stop drying clothes on the radiator Would vents solve the problem or just reduce the amount of condensation?

    Switchmaster SM400

I posted this question in 'Central Heating' section too in the hope that someone out there will know the answer for certain! With the Switchmaster SM400 programmer, can you have the heating on 'timed' and the water on 'constant', or are both water and heating on the same setting the only option?

    Condensation- big problem

To be honest, I don't even think about where the water goes when the clothes are drying!! BUT I will from now on! Whenever it's dry outside, the clothes go out there, but we don't have a tumble dryer and I have to dry the clothes somehow, honest guv!

    Condensation- big problem

Hi- thanks for your help. The area is enclosed with plasterboard, then insulation which looks like polystyrene tiles, then felt. The roofer who told us it needed to be re-done seemed to think that there wasn't adequate ventilation. I am very guilty of drying our washing on the radiators! We...

    Switchmaster SM400

Does anyone know if you can have the heating on 'timed' and the water on 'constant' with this central heating programmer? Or do they both have to be on the same setting? If they are on the same setting, can you recommend which other Switchmaster would be suitable? Thanks all
