    Big Problems With Gloss Work

Thanks for all replies... THe undercoat/primer was 48 hours old - surely this is long enough? I cleaned the window sill with white spirit before applying the undercoat, and still had the problem with the gloss.... :? :? :? Oh, and as far as cleaning brushes, I use white spirit...

    Big Problems With Gloss Work

Hi, I am having a recurring problem with my gloss work. Some history: Back bedroom. I was doing the gloss work over some existing (old) gloss that I had sanded and undercoated. As I was applying it, I noticed a dimple effect was appearing after just a couple of minutes. As I was nearing...

    Insultaing Bay Window Ceiling

Thanks as ever... I ended up buying a roll of Knauf Carbon Zero wool and bunging that up in the void. I was concerned there would be an air gap no matter how I played it with the Kingspan so took the safe option. Hopefully we'll feel the benefit come winter....

    Wood burning Stove questions

I would recommend you get a proper flue liner installed... There are plenty of Defra approved woodburners around that are suitable for smoke free zones. We had a Handol 51L installed a couple of months ago and we line in a smoke free zone....

    Insultaing Bay Window Ceiling

OK - pulled the ceiling down this morning..... There's a 9cm void between the ceiling and the roof. If I were to use Kingspan, is it OK to leave an air gap? The Kingspan I have is 5cm thick.... Can I just NoNails the Kingspan to the roof?

    Removing Foil Damp Paper

Really? Given that water, wallpaper remover and everything else have thrown at it has bounced straight back, I'd be amazed to see any bleeding from it with PVA and a skim of plaster between it :?

    Removing Foil Damp Paper

After spending ages getting precisely nowhere with removing the black backing of this foil damp, I spoke with my plasterer. He says as long as the bitumin adhesive is well and truly stuck - which, by Jeezus it is - they will PVA it and skim as normal.

    Removing Foil Damp Paper

Got one. Sadly, it mostly just takes the foil layer off leaving the black gunky adhesive behind

    Removing Foil Damp Paper

Hi, We've started stripping our master bedroom only to discover what I believe is "foil damp" paper on the chimney. Presumably put there many years ago to hide damp/soot staining as the fireplace was blocked up. There's now a vent where the fireplace once was which I am guessing was installed...

Thanks. As simple as that... I was thinking Kingspan or similar, but if Rockwool does the job, then fine.

    Insultaing Bay Window Ceiling

Hi, We have a large bay window - approx 10ft wide x 4ft deep. The ceiling in the bay is the original lath a plaster and as far as I can tell (haven't taken it down yet), there is no insulation in the void between the ceiling and the lead roof. I am getting the whole room skimmed next week...

Final question on my hearth - sealer

I used LTP Colour Intensifier and Stain Block on my black limestone hearth and am really pleased with the result. Blocks all stains and beads any water spilled on it. Also gives a nice deep finish to the colour. You can get it at Tile Giant.
