    Blown external facing bricks?

Is there anything I can use to treat brickwork which has recently started to deteriorate? The face of some bricks just above floor level outside has dropped off and I'd like to take some remedial action to save the rest & prevent the problem getting worse.

Easter tiling woes - Tiling to a shower tray

I've seen a couple past posts about tiling to a shower tray but these don't seem applicable to me. I'm fitting a walk-in shower (1700x900) & have had to make a 100mm wooden frame to sit it on as I need the height for the waste pipe to run from the centre of the tray. I proposed to cover this...

    RSJ protruding above floor boards

We recently moved into a 'tired' 70's dormer bungalow. I was laying a laminate floor in an upstairs bedroom and noticed the floorboards had a high spot. This coincided with an RSJ which spans the double garage below. I had to lift and rebate the boards as the laminate wouldn't lie flat. I can...

    Sealing drain inside bathroom

Hi Jobloggs They resemble the first of your sketches reducing to about 75mm about 50mm down (does this grammar make sense?). The top of the pipe is almost flush with the concrete floor - approx 12mm below the surface. I see what you mean - the plastic will sit in the recess? I've built a...

    Sealing drain inside bathroom

I have 2 open 4" (ceramic/porcelain type) drains in my bathroom - one for the toilet & one for the shower/basin. The toilet drain is straight forward - I'm concerned about the other one. How can I seal it after directing 2 std 32mm plastic pipes into it? It will eventually end up under a shower...

HELP!!! Leatherjackets (larvae of cranefly or daddylonglegs)

We moved to a new house last September and I noticed there were a lot of craneflies about in the evenings. 'No big deal' I thought as the house was close to lots of high trees and I thought that could be the cause. By November, the lawn had been ruined by crows and magpies rolling back the turf...

Tiling on top of old adhesive

Hiya Dale Thanks for your reply. As it turns out I despaired of anyone answering my posting and went ahead with pva in around the same consistency you suggested. Ahhhh - all's well that ends well

    Treating a newly-laid screeded floor

Thanks Joe I assume I can buy this at any builders merchants? Any idea how long the screed takes to dry thoroughly ? it's been 5 days since it was laid but looks dry enough.

    Treating a newly-laid screeded floor

I've just had a new screed put down on a concrete base in my hall. It's around 100mm thick and just about dry. Trouble is - it's starting to dust (heavy traffic). What can I use to seal it - pva solution? I eventually want to lay a wood floor but it won't be for a year or so yet.

Tiling on top of old adhesive

I'm going to tile a previously-tiled wall with limestone tiles. I've rubbed all the high spots down. Do I need to pva the wall before retiling? If so, what ratio/consistency do I need? Thanks

Water pipe codes on house design dwgs???

Have already posted a problem with hot water feed to my new thermostatic shower. Fortunately, I was presented with the original plans for my house when I moved in 6 mths ago and these show (red-penned) roughly where the hot and cold pipes were distributed around the house. For example: An arrow...
