Removing rear bumper on my Suzuki Ignis

I can't tell from that photo, but if the bolt head has sheared right off you can still remove the bumper after undoing all the others. You might then have enough of the bolt showing to get some grips onto to undo. Otherwise you might have to drill it out. Or an easyout which also involves a...

    Loctite 518

Jesus, nightmare with the valve spring compressor! I did have one which I haven't used for about ten years and now can't find anywhere so I went out to get another one and the only one I could get around here was this one which I've paid more than twice that price for...

Hi John, can you flesh this out a bit for me? What does a stem clean entail, is there anything special I should be using on them? And what should I be looking for on the valve heads themselves, is there a wear limit on them? I suppose I can compare them all to a new one if I just initially buy...

Sorry ch427, I missed this post until now! I guess that's the point of the anaerobic aspect of some sealants in that any excess silicone will solidify in air and risk blocking oilways, whereas excess of the 518 and similar won't actually cure and do any damage?

Ok! I think we can all see why my No 2 cylinder compression was a bit low! Blimey! So, next thing, should I just replace the two burnt ones, or replace the whole lot? And doesn't the whole head look a bit sooty? I'm surprised this sort of damage has happened on such a youthful motor...

That's the method I used John, with the helper holding it on the brakes that is, the crank bolt was quite easy actually. AlanE, the cam sprockets on these motors sit freely on the cams and it's just the tightened nuts that hold them together. Ditto the crank sprocket apparently, although I...

Hello friends! Just making a start on this job now, and have a first little issue. With the timing pin in and locking at TDC on No 1, the slots in the camshafts for the special locking tool do not quite line up. I can get the tool in both with a bit of forcing, but i was expecting them to line...

I think it's a bent valve, it's the motor referred to in this thread. http://www.diynot.com/forums/automotive-repairs/renault-scenic-2000-16-16-valve-petrol.344997/#2580531 God, is it really over two years that this job has needed doing? Doesn't time fly!

Thanks Burnerman, I'm doing a cylinder head on a Renault Megane, or at least thinking about it, and the Haynes recommends the the Loctite 518 for the rocker cover and oil separator (off the top of my head). The important point seems to be that it's anaerobic which the Wurth gasket gel you cite...

Cripes, bit pricey this stuff! Are there any suitable alternatives that are a bit more reasonable? Also, where do you get the little short haired rollers to apply it with from?

98 Peugeot Boxer Outer CV Boots Splitting

Thanks chaps, been offline for a few days, thanks for the comments. They're not the gluing ones, and haven't been fitted with cones, they've been done with new joints at the same time, the last time was both sides done while the gearbox was out for a clutch, and the shafts were on the bench. I...

98 Peugeot Boxer Outer CV Boots Splitting

Hi guys, my boxer is getting through outer cv boots at an unsustainable rate! Is this a common problem with these vans? I'm fitting them correctly, it's difficult not to, but I haven't been using Peugeot ones. I've got two split ones now which aren't even two years old. Will genuine ones perform...

Well at least you got a free pair of mole grips out of it! Assuming you got to keep them.

Oh well, surprised nobody knew this, must be a very common job. All done now, and it is an 18 mm nut with very little space to turn the spanner. I'd recommend anyone doing this to turn the nut rather than the bolt, which seems to round off easily! There is just enough room for a combi spanner if...

'96 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec Front Wishbones

Furthermore, is the Haynes correct in that only Nyloc nuts should be renewed, ie, no stretch bolts used on the Mark 4 (unlike the mark 3)? And can all the bolts be tightened before the weight of the vehicle is applied to the suspension? (Again, unlike the mark 3, you can tell I've only done a M3...

'96 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec Front Wishbones

Anyone here know the nut size of the front bush on the wishbone of this vehicle? My Britool 17mm combi wouldn't go on, and I didn't have an 18mm so went and got a Torq one from B and Q, the only place open. It seems pretty shoddy quality to me, and the fit is very sloppy. I don't want to put any...
