    Recommended system and remote keypad

Thanks for the advice. I'll just run six core cable to each device then. The dial up connection i was thinking of is one which would dial a telephone number in the event that it operated.

    PIR with seperate photocell output

I think this might work. L1 could switch the lights on when ever the PIR was activated (when it is dark). However as L2 is only capable of switching 120W (my four up/downlights total 280W) i could energise a 240VAC relay, mounted in an enclosure with the timeclock. A contact from this relay...

    Recommended system and remote keypad

Two questions: 1. I am in the process of running cables for a future burglar alarm. I am running six core cables for the PIRs. How many cores does the remote keypad need and the bellbox. Sorry if its a simple question but i've never installed a system before and haven't actually purchased it...

    PIR with seperate photocell output

Thanks for all your input. I think i will go for the timeclock in series with the photocell along the added PIR (with inbuilt photocell) in parallel that will then bring the lights on on movement when it is dark i.e. after the timclock has switched off. Shame that an integrated PIR and...

    PIR with seperate photocell output

Thanks John. It's nice to know that someone has been on the same journey, although a shame you didn't come up with anything either. I'm now thinking the next best (neater, but not as energy efficient) thing is to go for a PIR sensor and a timeclock that i will have to adjust as the seasons change.

    PIR with seperate photocell output

What i'm after is one of these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/180-standalone-pir/36316 with one of these built in: http://www.screwfix.com/p/standalone-photocell/11330 that has two independatly switched outputs as i already have standard lights that i want to control. I have surfed high and low...

    PIR with seperate photocell output

Does anyone know where you can get a PIR detector with a seperate output for lux? I want to get my outside lights to come on when it gets dark until around midnight (using an additional timeclock) and then between midnight and morning if anyone walks past them they will come on via the PIR...

    Central heating losing water

I checked the gas and it is not flammable. Also the radiator in question only six month old. I guess i must have a small leak somewhere. I have tied a bag around the pressure relief valve outlet which doesn't show any sign of collecting water. Does the fact that the air only seems to collect...

    Central heating losing water

I have a sealed (combi boiler) central heating system and have noticed one of the top floor radiators slowly fills up with air over a 3- 4 week period, meaning that i have to bleed it and then top up the water at the (Vallaint) boiler. We have a town house, so three levels. The boiler is on the...

New fire and engineered wood floor

Change of plan. I'm going to bite the bullet and pay for a granite hearth to be installed. What is the best way to make the edge of the (14mm) engineered wood floor neat around the hearth? Many thanks.

DIY hearth and engineered wood floor

I am having a gas (log burner effect) stove installed in front of an old redundant chimney breast. There is no hearth there at present and the flue will run on the surface of the breast. To save money i was thinking of installing a hearth myself, that raps around the chimney breast, as a...

    Engineered wood

OK maybe "easy" was a bit strong. However i have been looking at the Admonter, Berry Floors and Kahrs ranges. Does anyone have any experience good or bad with these or could anyone recommend another manufacturer that they were particulary impressed with especially if they installed it themselves.

    Engineered wood

I was going to lay Quick Step laminate in the bedrooms and landing of our house, however after seeing our friends proper wood floor i have had a change of heart. Does anyone have any recommendations for engineered wood? As i will be laying it myself i want one that, like Quick Step, is easy to...

    Cleaning paint from PVC windows

Just discovered another useful tip. My missus' nail varnish remover did a good job. Basically removed all the dirt and softened any thick pain making it easy to scrape off with an old credit card.

OK Thanks. That's a good idea.

    Cleaning paint from PVC windows

Thanks for tip. I will give them a go, however they do say they are good for semi cured paint and mine is circa 10 years old They sound worth having anyway to use after i have decorated.

    Internal window board fitting

Thanks. I'll try that then. The wood won't bond to the mortar direct then? As this would make it easier as i could just level the new board straight onto the wet mortar.

    Cleaning paint from PVC windows

We are talking loads of old paint plus some plaster that was not cleaned off originally. I was hoping for some sort of tool e.g. wooden spoon or something, as i wont have any finger nails left otherwise!
