Dear All,
I'm hoping to become more employable by doing the C&G 2382-15 course.
Please recommend a home study course with the exam centre in Suffolk or Essex.
Also, how long does it take?
Thanks.
Open fires aren't effecient compared to stoves. But that said, Jetmaster has a range that might interest you: http://www.jetmaster.co.uk/open-fires/ Then choose a nice surround and hearth.
Drill several holes with this bit:
http://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-sds-plus-drill-bit-s4l-25-x-1000mm/74320
and put vent covers on both ends for a nice finish.
The vent must be there for a reason. Probably moisture extraction. I take it you have no mould or damp? Why not stretch some clingfilm over the vent and see what happens over the winter.
Lintel: http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Steel-Reinforced-Concrete-Lintel-100x65x1200mm-L03/p/220307
This is my effort: http://www.diynot.com/forums/your-projects/opening-up-a-fireplace-and-installing-a-stove.379469/
What size liner did your installer try to fit? 6 inch? Try a 5 inch liner instead. You'll need to choose a stove with a 5 inch flue though.
Is the obstruction caused by mortar? I removed some excess mortar using a Bailey Drop Scraper.
Build what you like. Look at this, especially the overhanging guttering picture.

I'd do it. It all seems legal. If you're worried, why not build a wooden fence and see what happens? If someone burns it down or you find your cat nailed to your front door then you'll know that you've upset someone.
That lintel is nice and wide. Have a look at my fireplace (house built in 1987) where I put a new lintel in above the old one. I widend it from 455 to 915mm. http://www.diynot.com/forums/your-projects/opening-up-a-fireplace-and-installing-a-stove.379469/
Have you soaked the shower heads in vinegar to remove limescale?
Also, those pumps are for use with water from a tank, not mains water. AFAIK it's against regulations.
Use concentrated sulphuric acid: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shot-Liquid-Drain-Cleaner-Litre/dp/B002OB4CTS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407932205&sr=8-2&keywords=sulphuric+acid
I would turn the hot water temperature down to about 40c. So you won't need cold water when showering. That won't cost you any money, but getting a plumber round = £££$$$!!!
I had a similar problem which I fixed with a litre of concentrated sulphuric acid. Try this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shot-Liquid-Drain-Cleaner-Litre/dp/B002OB4CTS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407918509&sr=8-2&keywords=sulphuric+acid
EDIT: pour into gulley outside. Do not use inside.
