    boards sagging

I pushed up the sagging part and screwed in at ~5" spacing. The result is better but still sags 2.5mm on the one board I tried. I was planning on having it skimmed. Will the skim not cover this kind of thing assuming I finish screwing all the boards with lots more screws? This is still...

    boards sagging

Here's a pic. If it was damp then surely if would affect all the boards? I'll give this a try.

    boards sagging

Yes I screwed one side then the other to keep the board up, then filled in the middle. Screws are just under the surface of the board using bugle headed plasterboard screws. Plasterboard from Travis Perkins.

    boards sagging

Roy, no screws missed. The sag is between the joists not along it. There are no noggins or support between the joists but I thought the boards would be ok over the 600mm. Alastair, its a very cold garage as the temp has dropped but its a dry garage. The boards have been up for a week. I...

    boards sagging

I've just gone into the garage and noticed the 12.5mm plasterboard I've been fitting these past few weeks are sagging in between the joists. The joists are 600mm centres. I've screwed at 400mm spaces. Why has this happened?

Filling plasterboard gaps in garage ceiling without access

Hello, I'm in the process of insulating and boarding the garage ceiling with foil backed plasterboard. I've started at one corner and fitted the first line square to the joists. As the side wall is not square to the joists there is an increasingly sized gap approx 10cm over the 5.2m length...

    Weight on garage ceiling

Right I couldn't stop thinking about this. I'm in the midst of having my home loft conversion designed and the truss manufacturer I'm dealing with kindly knocked up a design of the existing garage roof for me. Must be the Christmas spirit or something... ;) According to him with the truss...

What's this long thin metal strap for?

I'm installing new roller shutter garage doors and this long thin perforated metal strap will be in the way of the back box. What's is its function?

    Weight on garage ceiling

That's a bit of an arbitrary figure. I just quadrupled what I thought was a realistic max load for plenty of headroom. If there are too many obstacles and/or costs to increase the load bearing to 3-4 times then I will just board up as is and limit the paint pots.

    Weight on garage ceiling

Or to rephrase: I am thinking it would be wiser to put additional larger joists in between the existing roof trusses (currently 600mm centres) to hold the new ceiling. The span is 5.4 meters with single skin brickwork after that. So about 5.7m timber span required. One of the supporting...

    Weight on garage ceiling

I'm thinking about doubling up the joists for piece of mind before the ceiling goes up. However I don't think it will be easy to remove and replace the joist hangers easily. Any ideas?

Adding power sockets to detached garage...

I've not lined them up perfectly in the pic. It fits fine without any fudging. Thanks.

Adding power sockets to detached garage...

I picked up a 20A unit from Denmans today. They don't do the exact same MCB anymore, but got one that has the same fitting profile. Thanks
