    Decking screws for joists?

Quick q was hoping someone could help with. Building a decking frame with 2x4 timbers. Hangers were access limited but otherwise just screws. Can I use decking screws like these or are decking screws not for structural use? Thanks!

    C24 Joist span weights

For the most part nothing exceeds 1.5m but theres a few cases of 2m; currently thinking of changing those instances with an extra support

    C24 Joist span weights

Thanks; I am using 400 centers and and my unsupported spans will be less than that (i can always stick a few more supports in). The other consideration is the thinner the joist the more likely some wont be true...hmmm

    C24 Joist span weights

Thanks. There's little in the way of info on the joists themselves from my decking supplier; they do sell composite frames but its cost prohibitive and from what I can see it requires loads of their plastic supports so doesn't seem a great option. I've followed their advice of max 400mm centers...

    C24 Joist span weights

Hi all - doing an order for timber for a suspended decking frame I'm doing for myself, and haven't got a huge amount of height to work with so planned to use 2x4's (47x100mm). The merchants have got treated c24 lengths. To check this was strong enough I've used this c24 calculator which gives...

    Footing options for composite deck

Thanks - just bracketed some uprights off this? I've got loads of slabs to break up (unfortunately i cant use them where they are as their ground level is too high)

    Footing options for composite deck

Hi all - Currently planning out my composite deck build, and am weighing up some footing options. It's not a high deck, with the joists not far above the ground and after watching various videos there seem to be so many more products and options around now. I haven't built a deck before, but...

Getting levels for deck - best tools & methods

apologies all for the late reply; things have been manic to say the least! Yes in hindsight i was worried about nothing; I watched several videos where the pros were all using some sort of fancy laser levelling system and I got it into my head that I needed one too but had no idea about them at...

Getting levels for deck - best tools & methods

Thanks both. Okay I'll look at what's on offer. I haven't had a good run with tool hire companies lately in terms of the maintenacce of the tools. Interesting - although as the days get longer this might mean a late night! Am I right in saying then a string level is just out of the...

Getting levels for deck - best tools & methods

Hi all - After hitting a dead end with finding anyone available, I'm going to tackle our composite deck build over Easter. I'm currently doing an initial set out to work out exact dimensions for ordering materials, and am wondering the best way to achieve levels in this situation (runs are up to...

    Kitchen hob from bottle

Thanks all. bloody hell, who knew it would be so complicated?! Does anyone have any recommendations of type of fuel to go for? Seems to be lots of caveats regarding temperature, efficiency and cost. I had lpanned butane but it doesn't seem that the spare butane jets are as common.

    Kitchen hob from bottle

Thanks all. Are these jets universal; ie if a hob comes without them is it just a case of replacing them with generic propane jets or are they specific to the make? And also is having jets you fit yourself safe and fairly straight forward? I'm assuming so if many give you the option.

    Kitchen hob from bottle

Hi all - was hoping someone clued up with gas could help me with a left field q. I'm converting a camper and need to stick a hob in; don't want a special camping hob but more of a domestic hob you'd normally stick in the kitchen. Question is - can I stick that to a bottle and if so can it be...

Stainless strap strong enough for this?

Haha thanks all - I'm glad I'm not the only one that found this tricky to work out. As luck would have it I managed to snoop under a professionally converted van and they had used the same strapping so I'm just going to double it up and assume it will be fine. I spoke to a retired engineer this...

Stainless strap strong enough for this?

Hi all - Got a left field project I was hoping someone could help with. Fixing a water tank under a camper conversion I'm working on. The tank had an optional steel strapping that it normally comes with that had sold out but I've got some stainless steel strapping here that i was hoping could...

    Bathroom extractor fan keeps dying

Update in case everyone's interested; I've realised that my painter painted the vent shut on the other side; i had cleared it out to make sure there was nothing obstructing but didnt think to check the vent. so I reckon lack of air flow has caused the fan to burn out! At least thats my theory

    Bathroom extractor fan keeps dying

Hi all - apologies for delay in reply it’s been hectic. So when I say ‘blew’ one time it was a bang and smoke and the rest it’s just stopped working. As for the existing wiring it’s just taken a live, switched live and neutral from the light switch pendant in the same room, no isolation and no...
