Lighting circuit fuse keeps going, what to try?

Splitting the circuit? Would this simply be breaking the 'ring main' in the ceiling roses (although 70% of the fittings are either downlighters or transformered fittings making it hard to get to.)

Lighting circuit fuse keeps going, what to try?

Hello. I'll isolate as much as I can and check the lights for visible damage. I've got a multimeter and know how to use it. I'm dying to know how a 'specialist meter' could pinpoint the problem.

    POWER SUPPLY IN LOFT !!

You wouldn't want to run a hoover off of the lighting circuit. I've seen plenty of people wire tv amps into the lighting circuit, as they use next to no power. Probably illegal these days though, most things are.

Lighting circuit fuse keeps going, what to try?

Hello I've got home from work and found the downstairs lights not working. I replaced the fuse wire (yes I need a new consumer unit really) and it blew straight away, I don't think any of the lights were on, although there are two PIRs on the downstairs lighting circuit. What should I be...

    Help, I'm cold.

It fired up nicely when I switched the heating back on. Perhaps simply a case of the pilot light blowing out, the cover (and cupboard) hide the indicator window. Is this model of boiler particularly old. good, bad, due for replacement? Many thanks for all advice.

    Help, I'm cold.

Well the pilot light is on. I took the cover off and can see the blue glow. What should I be looking for now we know the pilot light is on?

    Help, I'm cold.

We don't have one, I think it is quite an old model.

    Help, I'm cold.

There is nothing obvious. There is no window however so I'm not sure. Any other ways to check?

Allready on that one! The model is a EP60B, no indication of the make I'm afraid. It is quite old.

    Help, I'm cold.

Hello. I don't know much about central heating but ours has stopped working tonight. It is an old fashioned system with a cylinder. There is a room stat, a stat on the boiler, and a cylinder stat. I've turned all to the max to check it is not simply this. The pump runs for when I turn...

Damp / Condensation in garage with photos

A quick update. I tried the clear plastic on the floor test and there is no sign of water coming through here. I spent saturday putting in some weep vents, 10 in all along the long side of the garage. Things seem to have improoved in part. I was going to add a couple of air bricks high...

Damp / Condensation in garage with photos

I do spend some time in there so ventilation could be key. The garage is only 2.4m x 4m, perhaps some weep vents woudl help, although there is no access to one of the long walls. Perhaps weep vents along my long external wall and an extractor high on the rear wall would pull enough air...

    Problem with halogen light fitting

I was under the impression that you can't reliably use a halogen light (transformer inside) with a standard dimmer switch. I was told the indictance of the transformer resists instantanious current change such as that provided by the thyristor in a dimmer switch. Is that right? We...

Concrete base for prefabricated garage help needed quickly!

I'm really no expert but laying some insulation over the concrete could help. May be an unnessesary expense to use the proper roof stuff but some cardboard packing, polystyrene, bubble wrap may do the job. Alternatively wollies are probably nearly giving away duvets at the moment.] Of...

Damp / Condensation in garage with photos

Hello again. The garage is too small for a car, so there's no moisture there. I'll have a go taping some clear plastic to the floor to see if thats where the problem comes from. The walls are sealed with aqua seal so I don't think moisture is coming from there. It seems to be worse...

Damp / Condensation in garage with photos

I took out all of the expanding foam that had been used to 'seal' between the corrugations and the wall. This doesn't seem to have helped

What's likely to be causing this leak? Photos included.

Yes, it was the chimney brest back gutter. £160 to be replaced with new lead. The guy spent all afternoon doing it.
