Trying to fault find Honeywell Y-Plan system

Thanks guys, those last two replies are particularly useful. Fistly, Paul, I agree: it is most likely something wrong with the electonics in the power head of the mid position valve, thus sending out strange anomolous voltages. I will try wiring in another one as you suggest. Secondly...

Trying to fault find Honeywell Y-Plan system

Guys, I'm going to try something here...I'll just explain, very briefly, the problem and see if it rings any immediate/obvious bells with anyone. More detail can be gone into later, like boiler type, etc (it's an old boiler, no PCB as far as I know: won't be able to check till Thursday): HW...

Trying to fault find Honeywell Y-Plan system

Thanks - I went back and took fresh measurements today and will submit a more detailed post later. In the meantime, however, the Honeywell V4073 technical blurb does state that: 240V in grey wire = valve hold in last position + approx 100V on orange wire. It seems to me that any voltage...

Please Help, boiler problem after returning from hols...

I'm no expert on this, but could it be as simple as your boiler pilot light having gone out, thus preventing the boiler from coming on? This 'may' in turn affect the pump, turning it off....sorry if I'm way out here, but worth a shot!

Trying to fault find Honeywell Y-Plan system

Hi- I am trying to get to the bottom of a problem with a central heating Y-plan system. Basically, when CH and HW are both on at the programmer, the ch temperature rises uncontrollably, with the room stat displaying eratic behaviour. I have checked the voltages being output from the various...

Thanks very much for your recommendations - that latter book looks particularly interesting, and I do have some knowledge of electrics.

    Looking for book recommendation

Hi - does anyone know of a good book (or website) that clearly explains central heating 'interlock' theory, with particular attention to the wiring of room stat/cylinder stat/programmer/3-port valve/boiler/pump/wiring centre? I have some books that touch on the subject and I have some...

    CH pipes under floor

Thanks - it's a first floor room, so it seems that insulation isn't necessary (?). The pipes run under the centre of the floorboards, so, yes, when they're nailed down either side I agree, warping would be difficult. There aren't too many options here, anyway, I guess.

    CH pipes under floor

Hi- I have just finished adding a radiator to a room that has an existing one. The existing pipework was layed directly under the floor in shallow notches in the joists. I ran the new pipes the same way (15mm copper flow & return laid across large joists notched about 25mm). This means, of...

Sorry another... gas hob & single oven Q!

Akshay: you're correct, that's what a flex outlet is. Not a whole lot different from using a 13A plug and single unswitched socket, but a bit neater. pinns: I don't see any reason why not to use your old switch, as long as it's in good nick. As you say, it's changing the MCB that counts for...

Sorry another... gas hob & single oven Q!

Sorry, I messed up: just been having some beers, but still feel able to advise on this: Firstly, welcome pimms, glad you've come out from lurking behind your VDU.... You're spot on with what you say, but I am rethinking things here and would suggest that a regular 45A cooker control unit...
