Sorry another... gas hob & single oven Q!

Hi Goo, glad to be of assistance - I don't see any particular advantage in having the associated hob hood/extractor on the same circuit as the cooker; it would be quite happy on the kitchen ring, with an appropriate (3A likely) fuse in its plug. But, yes, your idea would work and then you...

    Should i Install FCU's?

I just grabbed a 2-way adapter and thought 'maybe they all have fuses and I hadn't noticed', but it didn't, so I then thought 'maybe it's inside!'. Feeling a bit silly, as it's the first time I've ever opened one of these up as far as I can remember, I discovered no fuse inside (surprise...

    Should i Install FCU's?

Here's a thought though...(and I've been mulling over this one a lot in connection with a job I'm doing): While I agree that doubling up on fuses is not ideal, if you do use a 13A FCU and then, say, a single unswitched socket for a washing machine or similar with a 13A plugtop fuse, then the...

    moving sockets in a kitchen

..and having the blanking plates on show will look neater than having useful sockets on show? I don't get it. I just finished a kitchen with sexy black tiling and equally sexy chrome sockets/neon FCUs - looks really great and is practical too.

Sorry another... gas hob & single oven Q!

Hey Goo, how's it working out for ya? I should add that you should fit the fuse rating in the plugtops that the manufacturers recommend for their appliances (and cable if supplied).

Extreme overkill...that's me all over...(gave me the excuse to buy another tool, though - 2KW heat gun).

    jointing cables

I would heartily recommend 'heat-shrink butt crimps' as the answer. Brilliant, and I got the suggestion from this fab forum. The heat-shrink seals and reinforces the connection: it will not pull apart, though I'd recommend avoiding them in situations where the joint is under strain. Much better...

Sorry another... gas hob & single oven Q!

How about this: Replace the cooker outlet below the worktop with a double unswitched socket. Put 13A plugs on each appliance to protect them and their cables. Replace the cooker control unit with a 20A DP switch + neon. Replace the 30A fuse with a 15A one (or 16A MCB if you upgrade the...

For Admin: Can I change username?

Thanks ninebob. Thought it might be better if it relected my sparky occupation these days, rather than my former life as a cool dude with a recording studio (how the mighty have fallen). Though I might buy myself an Alfa Romeo and call myself T Spark...actually, look out for 'jeepspark' in the...

    Too much IRQ sharing?

Thanks Igorian. Indeed, a 'simple google' would probably answer most questions anyone has, but it's nice to get the personal touch. However, I feel a bit 'told-off' by you, which is an odd feeling for me these days. While I appreciate the help I've been offered and that some of my questions may...

Quick question about cables and filler

PVC sheathed cables: do they like interior filler (Wickes' brand, for example) or will it eat into them? I know cement is a no-no because of the lime and plaster is cool, but 'filler'...? My feeling is that it's Ok, but feedback welcome!
