    Dumbo confused by measurements

Cheers Kev - recognise that from Screwfix pages! Still not grasped the 1/2" thread size - is that the length of the thread? Seems a weird thing to specify as a measurement!

    Dumbo confused by measurements

1/2", 15mm etc. etc. - what do they all refer to? I have a new toilet cistern, with male plastic threaded fill inlet. The nut from a 15mm compression fitting screws on neatly. But it's obviously not a 15mm compression fitting, as standard 15mm pipe is too big to fit the inlet. Is it 1/2" female...

    What Shower

Your fitter speaks the truth. If you have decent mains pressure, you'll get much better pressure from a mixer shower than electric. Plus, as mentioned, you can get a nice concealed one into the wallspace. It's a no-brainer.

Finishing laminate around bow-front shower tray

Brilliant tip matty - that's just great. Cheers for everyone's help.

Finishing laminate around bow-front shower tray

 Sorry WoodYouLike. I'll buy you a pint if you're ever up this way (or flowers, if you're going to be girly about it  )

Finishing laminate around bow-front shower tray

Cheers for that. Using AquaLoc flooring, which is "suitable for bathrooms" - although I'll be extra safe and run a thin bead of waterproof glue into the locks before clicking in. Room is not suitable for swinging cats - 1200 x 2000, so I should be able to get away with nice small expansion...

mattysupra / WoodYouLike - you boys seem to be the laminate gurus here - any comments? Cheers L

    Suspended Floor Insulation

Yeah, I've done it with standard glass loft insulation and cheap-as-chips plastic mesh from a Garden Centre, and works a treat. Also looked at some of the new silver foil/bubble insulation, which is only a few mm thick - easy to install - just staple it up to 25mm from floor and around...

    lifting floorboards

Don't *all* floorboards run horizontally? If they didn't, wouldn't they be *wall* -boards?

    STRAY INSULATION IDENTIFICATION!!!

It could be Thermafleece, which is made from sheep. It's green - in every sense of the word! :D http://www.secondnatureuk.com/spec.htm

Finishing laminate around bow-front shower tray

I'm putting in AquaLoc laminate floor in new bathroom. Shower tray is 1200x800 cast stone, with bow-front; a nice parabolic front, in a recess. Tray weighs a flippin' ton. Existing floorboards are sound and level. Do I lay the laminate under the front edge of the tray, and seal round? This...

    Shower connection problem

OK, checked the bore on the flexi, and ran up the shower - you're right: not as good pressure as before. Removed the flexi, "made space" for the compression fittings, and redid the run in plastic... that joist didn't look structural anyway :D Still left with the question of how to keep...

    Shower connection problem

Sodit - why make work for myself: I'll connect the whole lot up dry tonight, and see what the pressure at the shower head is like first! :o

    Shower connection problem

All I can say is "oh b4lls". I thought the flexi hose was a great idea - I'd already tried to bend one of those flexible "concertina" type lengths of copper round, but it wouldn't go through the joist (it has to go through a 4x2 that has been drilled through two adjacent sides, so it's pretty...

    Shower connection problem

Eh?! Are we taking about the same thing - 15mm metal braided hose with chrome compression fittings? Never said anything about not using them behind wall on the packaging! Was the only thing that was going to go "round the bend" at 90 degrees through a 4x2. How prone are they to leaking?!?

    Shower connection problem

Yeah, hard to explain, I know. I'll have another attempt - posting pictures looks like a lot of hassle (not having a public album on the web). Anyway..... I have the 15mm flexihose running along a noggin in the stud-partition wall, the shower side of which is currently unsheeted. The...

    Shower connection problem

I'm currently fitting a new shower in a 1200x800 recess. I've mounted the concealed mixer on a noggin on one of the short walls, and run a braided flexihose from the outlet, round the corner, to a central point on the long wall, where the sprayhead and rail will be. I'm currently sheeting up the...

    Tiling to floor

Subfloor is OK - well, as good as it gets in newer houses - standard suspended wooden floor. The laminate gets laid on 3mm foamy underlay stuff - can't help thinking it needs to be properly located at the edges - if there were skirtings going back on, they'd do the job. But they're not...

    Tiling to floor

Well, yeah, but that's not really what I was asking.... if I tile up, the "spring" in the floor will slide the first course of tiles up the way before the adhesive sets. Laminate needs to be held down tight at the wall edges to prevent it springing and bouncing all over the place - how do I get...
